Monday Musings

There's something about a death in the family that makes me very introspective. I've been thinking a lot about mortality and bucket lists - wanting to make sure my life is what I want it to be before I shuffle off this mortal coil.

I know that some of the things I would like to do aren't necessarily reasonable or achievable, but having them on the list still keeps me energized for the future. Some things on the list are recent additions because of something Steve said he wanted to do. A few things on the list I have already accomplished, and they stay on the list with a big check mark next to them that says DONE!

For the next however-many-years I have left, I plan on living each day to the fullest. How about you?

Quite so - many centuries ago, people referred to "memento mori," a reminder of death or mortality, in the sense that while we do not need to dwell upon and obsess over death so should we also not entirely forget it or pretend it is not awaiting us.

Perhaps a good phrase is to be mindful of one's mortality.

I quite agree. I also update and replace items as I do them so I don't run out of things to do that keep me motivated.
