Monday, Monday

One of my favorite groups from the 60s is The Mamas and the Papas. Their harmonies and sense of family were a great comfort for a young boy like me struggling to figure out how he fit in with the world. I love their song "Monday, Monday" because it sums up how I feel about the first work day of the week.
Monday, Monday, so good to me;
Monday morning, it was all I hoped it would be.
Yes, ultimately it's a breakup song, but it's also about love. Love that might be fleeting or distant. And the melody is more uplifting than sadder songs like the Carpenters' "Rainy Days and Mondays" even if the lyrics share the same sadness. It's the yearning that I most identify with, that hope that Monday evening will be as good as Monday morning is.
Fast forward nearly 50 years, and I am in an amazing relationship that gives me great joy every day. I have truly found the life that makes Monday morning guarantee that Monday evening he will still be here with me.
