First Exercise Class at Senior Center

Today {Tuesday, January 27, 2015} I went to the Senior Life Enrichment Center here in my town. I signed up for and took a one hour Chair Exercise Class.

I wanted to leave after 10 minutes. That class was whipping me.Then I realized that I could not do what they were doing. I had to do my own thing at my own pace. Sometimes I just had to stop and rub my legs. They took a break at the 30 minute mark, so I went to the ladies room so I could move around and do something other than sit and exercise.

One hour of chair exercise is a lot for this beginner. I moved as much as I could. Even as slow as I was doing those exercises, it was still very difficult.

I don't want to give up. I just hope that I won't be too sore tonight and tomorrow. Already hurting some in my upper back.

I invited a friend to go with me on Thursday. She said she would think about it.

I am going to say this again, "I don't want to give up."

    Spark Guy says that 10 minutes of movement will slowly make a difference. Exercise for 10 minutes and then take a break. After several days, add a couple of minutes to your 10. In August, I started on the stationary bike and would set the timer for 10 minutes. At the beginning, those 10 minutes felt more like hours. It took several weeks before I managed to get to 15. Now I ride 30 minutes every day, but there are still days when it seems much longer before the timer goes off.

    Exercise is so personal. In my opinion (for what it's worth) you only compete with yourself and you challenge yourself to go a bit farther and get healthier. Hang in there with it...you'll be so surprised how much better you will feel in a very short time.

    Take as many breaks and go as slow as you want, just donèt give up.

    Just do what you can!! Eventually it will get better for you. I had the same experience last summer when I started some senior classes. Happy to hear you are working hard on it.     I have a chair exercise video and I did it with my 3rd grade class. They could not keep up with it all of the time either. I am glad to hear you stuck with it. emoticon
