Day 67 - Wednesday High
Thursday, February 05, 2015
Another late night post. I gotta stop doing this! But there's a reason...
On February 15th, I'm the guest preacher at our church (Westminster Presbyterian Church in downtown Sacramento). Our pastor is going out of town to take his daughter to a soccer tournament. He had asked me to preach before, on the Sunday before New Year's, but I was out of town and couldn't do it. His attitude is that everyone has one good sermon in them. We'll see about that!
So today, after I took my parents to the airport, I sat down and started writing. Well, I think it came together pretty well. I'm going to sleep on it, and then go over it again tomorrow, but I think it's halfway decent. I have a week to tweak it if I need to; that was the point of starting early. I also had to come up with the prayers before the first scripture reading, the prayer of confession, the assurance of forgiveness, the prayer after the offering, the benediction, and the hymns! Boy, a pastor's job ain't as easy as it looks! (My dad's a retired Presbyterian minister, but I never appreciated all that he did to keep the church running AND come up with a sermon and worship service every week.)
It felt good to get the thing accomplished, and I did get my workout in as well. The computer got infected with some kind of virus yesterday, and had been acting up something awful. I think I've got it fixed (I'm in IT, this isn't supposed to happen!), but I've installed some new anti-spyware protection to see if I can prevent it from happening again.
The computer problems kept me off SP most of the day. In fact, in order to keep focusing on the sermon, I closed the browser and email programs so that I wouldn't be sidetracked (which happens way too often).
Tomorrow the installer comes over to install the new bathroom counters, and I'll be reinstalling all the plumbing fixtures. I hope that goes as seamless as I think it will! (You know it NEVER does!)
So I'm kind of stuck on this motivational "pat yourself on the back" trend the last couple posts. I guess the theme of today's post is: Keep your focus on your goals, and make sure you're taking the steps you need to reach them. My goal today was to work out and get the first draft of the sermon written. Done. And. Done.
What is your goal for today? And what are your plans to achieve it? I know you can do it!
