Day 70 - A Little Rain Is Wonderful

Saturday, February 07, 2015

We drove up to the lake yesterday during a good rain. The windy roads through the coastal range were a little treacherous, but we made it safely. It was so nice to sit in the sun room and watch the rain come down over the lake.

The lake level was up a good foot from our last visit, and we had to raise the boat lift to get the bottom rails out of the water. That is a really good feeling. We're due for more rain tomorrow (there's a "river" of rain clouds traveling toward us over the Pacific) but we got a little break today, enough for us to drive home safely on dry roads.

Rain used to dampen my spirits, but not anymore! I guess living in drought conditions for the past 3 years help teach appreciation for a little precipitation. What in your life used to make you sad, but now it doesn't? I used to be sad if I didn't allow myself to eat a particular food. Now, I see food as fuel rather than reward or treat. Sure, I will still have a bit of something if I want it, but I know that it's going in the SP nutrition tracker, so I behave. And if I don't want those calories to count toward my daily allowance, then I tell myself that the treat will have to wait for another day!

We all have self-control (even if we sometimes like to think we don't). We just have to exercise it like a muscle so that it will get stronger!

Food as fuel is a great attitude! I still eat what I want, but I do it in moderation. Even better - a few bites is usually all I need and I'm all good! I'm with you though, every bite goes in the tracker! Love the pic - thanks for sharing!! emoticon

Glad you're safe. I used to hate going to the gym but now I don't mind it - but it's still a means to an end

Developing that resistance muscle with food is a good idea. You are developing good habits and are making good choices.

Gas tastes terrible. Food doesn't. ;-)

Eating the right things, in the right quantities for me is pleasurable. The taste is pleasurable. The results are pleasurable. The gained capabilities are pleasurable. Each!, more pleasurable than ever eating the wrong things in the wrong quantities ever was. :-|

Rain after drought is fun. Too much rain or too much drought can, as you indicate, be not only a pain,. but a disaster.

Unfortunately, because of global climate change, we all have too much flooding, and too much drought to "look forward to".

Glad to hear the water is rising and that you had a safe round-trip. You are so right about coming to the realization that food is fuel. When you put the best fuel into your body, you get the most out of your body.

That's a great way to regard food: eating to live instead of living to eat!! I'm there sometimes.

You have reached the same conclusion I have and that is that food = fuel. Just sets up a whole new brain dynamics regarding food. Works for me.
