No longer scared of mirrors

Wednesday, February 18, 2015

I used to go out of my way to avoid mirrors, other than the bathroom vanity. I bought clothes only online so I wouldn't have to look at myself in fitting rooms. I'd look away if I had to pass by mirrors in stores or public restrooms. I tucked the floor-length mirror at home behind a dresser. Even walking into buildings with glass doors, I would look up or away to avoid dwelling on my reflection.

But the last couple of weeks I've started looking at myself again. I look "average" now, which still surprises me. I don't know if I'll be able to go far enough to look thin, but having a "normal" bmi and having an "average" silhouette is a happy situation so I like confirming when I have a chance.

Your blog title caught my eye because i am still scared of mirrors! I do the same thing you write about here--avoid all reflections of myself from the neck down (and sometimes from the neck up, too, depending on how I feel about myself at the moment).

Congratulations to you for what I think is a HUGE non-scale victory! So happy to hear that you're looking at yourself again and that you're not unhappy with what you're seeing!

That's awesome. Way to go! I don't avoid mirrors, but I sure am looking forward to seeing less of me. emoticon emoticon
