Happy Year of the Sheep

Thursday, February 19, 2015

Today is the first day of the Chinese New Year. Happy New Year, everyone! My Mom taught me long ago the new year wishes that need to be shared. May you have a festive new year! May the new year bring you prosperity! May you have good health! May you travel safely! May your children be diligent and succeed at school!

The new year celebrations traditionally involve multiple days of feasting, so it can be a challenging time to be on a diet. We are going to have our big dinner on Friday, so only one night of indulgence should not be disastrous. I should have spent the last few days scrubbing the house until it gleamed, but of course I didn't manage to do that. I'm not as good at the house-cleaning part as I am at the over-eating part of celebrating the new year!

I'm not good at house-cleaning any time of year! I just did the SparkPoints trivia quiz--you know on the SparkPoints page, where you answer multiple-choice questions about health and fitness? Well, a question came up about the average number of calories an American burns per year doing housecleaning. I'll give you a hint--the answer is 50,000. But I'm absolutely sure that does NOT apply to ME! I'm sure I burn less than HALF of that, much to my chagrin!

Anyway, Happy New Year to you! I hope all your wishes come true (through your own hard work, of course!). May it be the best year ever!
