Why did the woman cross her legs?

Thursday, February 26, 2015

The classy answer, of course, is that the woman crossed her legs because she's a *lady*. But since I'm the woman in question, I know the real reason: I have started crossing my legs because I once again *can*.

Over the years, my legs had increased in girth so that their generous proportions meant that whenever I tried to cross my legs, I needed to twist and tilt, using gravity and leverage, in order to get one leg crossed over the other. And once I succeeded, the fabric of my pants was stretched to its physical limit, and I felt the circulation in my upper legs starting to cut off. So, I gave up on crossing my legs, and settled for crossing my ankles instead.

Imagine my surprise and delight - yes, it doesn't take a lot to make me happy - when the lbs started to drop off and my legs started slimming down to normal proportions and I could cross my legs again in comfort. It's a small thing, something I used to take for granted until I couldn't do it anymore, but being able to cross my legs is another sign of progress. It's a treat to be able to strike a lady-like pose again.

Great! You've eliminated this problem, but I still have it! I'm still twisting and tilting, using gravity and leverage! And only one side works (right leg over left), and I can't leave them crossed very long (like only one or two minutes). Isn't it weird how you don't think of these things at all, as you say, until you notice that you can't do them any more? In my case, bending my knees is another. I see videos of when my kids were small and think "Wow, my knees could bend so easily back then."

YEAH! Milestone for sure. MY doctor wants me to stop crossing my legs since it leads to bad circulation and, in my case, varicose veins.
