Sparking Again as of 2/21/15

Saturday, February 28, 2015

2/28/15 - I came across a blog I wrote back in 2012 and it still rings true today! Thought maybe reposting it will keep it as a reminder of what to do, and what not to do.

I really would like to be down to 200 lbs. (37 pounds lost) by this year's October RV rally, so let's just try to lose a pound a week for now.

Start 2/22/15 - 237.3lbs

02/22/15 to 03/01/15
Week 1 - 2.3lbs/235.0
03/01/15 to 03/08/15
Week 2 - 4.6lbs/230.4
03/08/15 to 03/15/15
Week 3 - 2.8lbs/227.6
03/15/15 to 03/22/15
Week 4 - 1.2lbs/226.4
03/22/15 to 03//29/15
Week 5 - 1.9lbs/224.5
03/29/15 to 04/05/15
Week 6 - 1.5lbs/223.0
04/05/15 to 04/12/15
Week 7 - 1.8lbs/221.2
04/12/15 to 04/19/15
Week 8 - 1.4lbs/219.8
04/19/15 to 04/26/15
Week 9 - 0.8lbs/219.0
04/26/15 to 05/03/15
Week 10 - 2.4lbs/216.6
05/03/15 to 05/10/15
Week 11

Total -20.7 lbs

Here it is:

emoticon As I begin to get myself back into shape (again) I thought I would put some preliminary observations down in this blog post.

When I was Sparking daily in 2009/2010, people who know me know that I was a pretty disciplined exerciser and calorie tracker, and I still am.

emoticon Walking:

I just completed my old neighborhood 2 mile walk that I used to do religiously twice a day at a 4 mph pace in 30 minutes...first time I went the complete route since I started walking Saturday. I see that carrying 30 pounds more than I used to along with not being up to speed (no pun intended) with my fitness left me about 3 minutes over my 30 minute walk time. My trusty watch showed that I was walking at 3.6 mph, so that makes sense. All I could think about as I was walking is that it is like carrying a 16 pound bowling ball in each hand walking with this extra weight...no wonder my time and speed are off...but not for long.

emoticon Weighing In:

I was always a once a week weigh in person, but starting out, I usually check my progress daily. I started weighing myself on Saturday at 230, was 229 Sunday, and 228 yesterday. This morning before my walk I was 227.2, and after the walk I was 225.8. Wouldn't it be nice if just by walking 2 miles you could lose a pound! I know that early on, the weight drops quickly if you stay on target, and right now daily weigh ins are a good motivator for me.

emoticon Food Tracking:

I always liked doing this, but does anybody else find that tracking foods religiously seems to make you more preoccupied with food than you were before you started tracking? I need to get over this soon!

emoticon October RV Rally:

I decided when walking this morning that my goal is to have lost at least 10 pounds by our October Columbus Day weekend rally...don't see this to be too difficult.

emoticon SparkFriends:

It sure is nice to come back to an online community and have all the people you used to interact with come right back into your journey, no questions, no judgements. I can't thank all my SparkFriends enough for that. Many I stayed in touch with on Facebook, but many have stayed here on SparkPeople continuing on their journey, and I wish you all the best and thank you for your support.

I'm not much of a blog poster, so this will probably be it for a while..., so be happy & healthy!

We on the RV team are very glad to have you back active with SP. You may not blog often but you post often and we enjoy your insightful comments (not to mention your bowling scores) So many of us have traveled up and down with our weight. We have a struggle with food and probably always will. But with the encouragement and support of our Spark Friends, we are not on this journey alone.

Great loss for the first week - keep it up and think how slim you'll feel at your Oct Rally!

emoticon I hear it in your words. I agree that tracking makes you more focused but I think in a good way. You weigh your food options before scarfing them down and then trying to repair the damage and really, once you have a favorites list it is not so difficult. I really liked it when they added the recent list since I do tend to eat the same foods for several days cooking a 4-6 plate meal for 2 people. The bowling ball in each hand statement is what I am feeling right now even though I have only put 5 lbs back on depending on which day I weigh. It is a motivator for me to push on though because I do not like feeling out of shape & struggling to do every day tasks. emoticon

I believe your plan is doable. I tend to have a hard time logging all the food, especially when my husband cooks and nothing is measured.

Good luck and stay with it.
