Why in The World Didn't Someone Tell Me???

Sunday, March 08, 2015

I have discovered an important secret that every person on the face of the earth should know. Some of you probably already know. My discovery was February 5, 2015. A little late in my life to find out this amazing thing that has been changing my life, but "Now I Know."

If someone had told me this years ago, I probably would have said, (You're kidding! or Really, no joke?). This life changing information has done just that, or it is starting to change it.

As some of you know, I have been going to physical therapy for my knees. This physical therapy started on Feb. 5, 2015. A blessing for sure. With my assessment, came a discussion with my therapist. My ham strings are extremely tight. So, I am thinking (HUH???). What does that have to do with my knees. It seems I pulled ham strings in both legs while in a chair exercise class (OUCH!!!). Those ham strings are attached to my knees. Tight ham strings = bad knees + bad legs. Hard for me to walk most of the time.

So to say the least, the BIG secret that everyone should know...... Drum roll please....... Stretching. Oh yeah..... Ham String stretches. This has helped my legs and my knees. I am not cured, and it will be a very long haul, but I am better off doing these stretches and getting better all of the time.

Not giving up...... sometimes I want to give up and I get discouraged, but I think of the reward I will receive when I do these stretches and exercises. Then I get moving.

What a revelation and blessing with this great bit of information.

That really is an eye opener. Thanks for sharing. I'm going to make sure I stretch my hamstrings on a regular basis now. I hope it really helps with your knees.

Never would have guessed that you need to do stretches before chair exercise. Thanks for the tip.

Stretching helps so much it is sometimes hard to believe. I have a "cage" at my PT place where I do a lot of stretching. It is like an adult jungle gym. I love it.

Here is how I can tell it helped. Massages on certain points of my body (near my joints) used to kill me. Now that I am doing the cage, the massages don't kill me. In fact, the massages feel great!

I walk better, too which is wonderful.

Do not give up or feel hopeless. Things will get better. We just need the proper guidance from a good physical therapist. An occupational therapist is not a bad idea either, as they can help you position your body better so that it won't get strained.

Isn't it joyous when we receive knowledge like that? I know how you are feeling, though, as I am constantly learning more because I am iIN pain than I ever did when I was not hurting! Why couldn't we have learned this stuff earlier? For everything there is a time.... All the best on your journey! emoticon

I am so glad your PT enlightened you. 1st step to good health.

I have to admit, I had to Google Hamstring muscles. I now know, I have tight Hamstrings. I have a very sedentary job & I walk about 4 miles a day.

Stretching my hamstring is now part of my daily routine.
