It's a cinch

Thursday, April 02, 2015

I haven't worn a belt in over a decade. There was a time when all my shirts were tucked in, and my pants always belted. But then my waist expanded, and I outgrew my pants and belts. I replaced my pants, and I stopped tucking in my shirts, and then I started wearing loose floppy knits which camouflaged my muffin top. The waists of my pants were so tight that a belt wasn't needed anyway.

Last weekend the kid cleaned out her closet and found a couple of my old belts which I had passed down to her. I have pants which are a little loose now, so decided to see if my old belt would fit - and it does! I have to use the last notch, but my old belt closes and holds up my pants. Cool ... I don't have to pull up saggy drawers anymore! I'm not ready to tuck shirts into my pants yet, but this was an unexpected treat of a NSV.

    Good topic, Bemused.

Belts. I haven't worn belts in ages. I, too, cover up my waistband, either wearing my blouse untucked or, when the weather is cool enough, wearing a cardigan or sweater to cover up the waist area. Today, I looked in my closet and spied a pair of slightly too small trousers I'd like to wear with a tucked-in blouse. Right next to these pale grey light wool trousers (perfect for work for the upcoming spring months) was a medium-pink blouse that would look great with them! I had never thought of that combo, but the juxtaposition of these two items brought about by some panicky searching through my closet yesterday as I was hurrying to get out the door and go to work--it was a good thing because I thought, "I would like to wear that outfit this spring! With a BELT!" I envisioned myself in those clothes, and the image was motivating.

So I hope you really enjoy your new thinness, which will soon allow you to wear belts with confidence! You deserve to admire yourself after all that hard work! Fashion is fun! No longer only for the kid! Yay!
