My First Winter in Mammoth Lakes, CA
Sunday, April 26, 2015
I may have had the best time of my life this past winter, but there are more winters to come so it's hard to say. I've been a leader on the SparkPeople Ski/Boarding team teams.sparkpeople.com/sn
for ages. Now as an ASIA level one certified alpine ski instructor with my first full season under my belt I can safely say I am a skier!
I arrived in Mammoth just in time to ski on my birthday in December and then start work a couple days later. I had never visited Mammoth before. After skiing and working on the mountain for five months straight, I can also safely say that there is a lot more for me to explore and learn on the mountain.
I wax nostalgic most when I think of my daily routines. The gondola ride to and from work each day, stuffing my feet in and out of my boots everyday, acclimating myself to my pupils everyday, seeing all of the awesome instructors everyday...It's good to be home after so long...but I miss my friends and I miss the daily burn of skating up the magic carpet every morning to guide my little first timers down the bunny hill for their first times until later in the day when many of them could do it on their own with turns or stops.
I made some super friends...family for the winter. I can see why many of my coworkers my own age had been coming back for decades. I might have a decade or two still left in me.
