The second day of our mini-reunion with my former boss who is being treated for advanced cancer included another fresh, healthy, satisfying lunch and almost four hours of rambling conversation sprinkled with laughter.
And somewhere in there, I and the slightly younger former colleague expressed our gratitude for the opportunities and mentorship our ex-bosses gave us way back when.
It's been such a special visit. We haven't all been together since my former boss' retirement party 8 years ago. We talked so much about the now and the past, as well as arguing over politics, religion, and other controversial topics - I feel that we left no stone unturned. The best part is we showed by action and words how much both our former bosses mean to us.
So ... mission accomplished!
After a 4 hour bus ride, I am now in my mother's house. Tomorrow I will take her walking and grocery shopping. If she is up to it, I will take her out for lunch. We will buy live fish and crab that I will cook for dinner. I will go out to her garden and pick fresh veggies for dinner as well. Yum.
My mother fell last week and has a lump on her head. She doesn't know why she fell, and she's hardly left the house since then. I'm glad to be here for a couple of days - I hope to take her out for a couple of careful, slow walks each day. I'm going to tell her that I need to improve my health by walking and ask if she'll join me; let's see if she falls for that!
