Today was my first 10km race since falling pregnant. I will admit to doing nowhere near enough training, and would probably have been fitter even just a month ago- we are moving apartment so packing and sorting has taken priority - However, I got up at 5, fed my girl and was on one my way.
Every kilometer was hard. At about the 3k point I picked a person in front of me- she had matching shoes and headscarf - and paced myself with her. Occasionally I picked up my pace and slipped in front of her. Sometimes she would get a head of me and I would loose sight of her. At 8k I was loosing the will. I started to walk. As soon as I did a felt a tap in my shoulder. "You can go slowly," she said, "but you can't walk." It was my green trainer lady, she had been pacing herself against me too! I ran with her for the next 1.5k, although could tell she wanted to do a sprint finish and I just didn't have it in me, so I told her to go. Unfortunately I couldn't find her at the end to thank her, but Siti, thank you so much. You were my angel today.
I finished the race, my gorgeous girl and husband waiting for me. Not a bad start to the morning.
In other news it's the end of week two for our Buy Nothing New year and all is going well. Instead of clothes or toys we bought a baby spa gift voucher as a present for a friend's daughter, and I have arranged a clothes swap party this week to help clear my wardrobe, get some new outfits and have a girly get together to boot! I had my first podcast interview for the book go live, although I can't listen to it, apparently I sound okay.
I hope everyone has had a lovely weekend.
