My 5K Tomorrow Postponed

Friday, June 19, 2015

I was looking forward to my first 5K that I have done in years. I have not done one since my heart surgeries and since my last bad MS relapse. My sister had agreed to do it with me since I have been having dizzy spells and blacking out some, but at the last minute she decided she didn't want to do it so I do not feel safe doing it alone this year. I was starting to get very down on myself and very depressed and that is not in my nature then I made a decision to start training for the next 5K tomorrow that way I would be in shape and my heart would be stronger and I would not need to rely on my sister to walk with me - maybe I would be fast enough that I could keep up with some other people so that I would be in a bigger group. I might even make a friend or two by then that I could walk with. So with new resolve I am looking forward to stepping out with my new training plan tomorrow.

And as if to confirm my decision to do this my friend invited me to a weekend step challenge so I looked upon that as confirmation that this was a STEP (pardon the pun) in the right direction - wish me luck. Now off to go look up training plans any suggestions will be appreciated I want to walk not run a 5K.

I'm really sorry you're facing so much, and it's a shame you didn't get to do it, but there will be others, and hopefully, you'll be even stronger and fitter when you do. In the meantime, I sometimes sign up for virtual events where I can do the event at home, and they send me the medal. If you're interested, let me know, and I'll send you the link. My friends and I use it to feel connected even though we're in different places. emoticon

Beth - You are wise not to do the 5 K until the dizziness is no longer an issue. Assuming that you have your Dr's OK, it makes sense to train for one in the future. good luck!

Hi, Beth - I like the way you've chosen to be proactive and not let the missed 5K get you down. I agree that you should consult with your doctor about the dizziness - or maybe you already have?
Fun to see you visiting CAMO this week - I'm on my way to the chat thread to catch up there!

SP has an article on training to walk. You can use the SP search engine. It will guide you. But the dizziness and passing out concerns me. You should let your doctor know and show him your training plan to see if he thinks that's appropriate for you.

I hope you are seeking medical help if you are "blacking out and having dizzy spells." That is not normal!!!!!
