Week 3 BNN

Sunday, June 21, 2015

Week three of BNN,
This was week three of Buy Nothing New Year and we’re making the most of it. Saturday we went to an animal park and today we went to the local theme/adventure/waterpark. After we got a discount by booking tickets online first we headed out for an early morning, and I must confess to getting rather irate with the women in the cue who decided my daughter’s buggy was there as an arm rest. After asking one lady several times not to lean on it, I then moved her handbag off the top, (yes my daughter was in the buggy, with the shade pulled over and this woman had put her handbag on top) and she screamed at me not to push her, telling me that I was incredibly rude. My husband held me back at this point.
After this initial incident we had a lovely day, although we almost slipped up on BNN with one of the pictures they take of you. It was the three of us underwater and although I looked (objectively) awful, the other two looked brilliant. We were just about to get it when we realized what we were doing. This was exactly the type of thing we are trying to stop doing – spending money on objects no experiences. Then we discussed it. We are moving to a condo next week with access to a pool, and a friend that lives there has an underwater camera I am sure we could borrow. So instead of a few minutes pleasure buying a photo, we can have an afternoon of fun taking shots, then select a couple where we all look great and print of three times as many for half the price. Sorted!
I had another BNN brainwave today too. Last week at the race, my friends were sporting great little waist bands for their ipods and I was incredible jealous. Today I realized we have a slim water proof money pouch. It’s the perfect dimensions and looks ideal. I can’t wait to book the next race to try it out!
On a different note does anyone know if there is a BNN, Compact, Make and Mend etc Spark page?
I hope everyone has had a good weekend and I’m wishing you all an enjoyable week ahead.

I sometimes wish my husband didn't buy so many clothes, and would get rid of some of the excesses.

I sometimes buy clothes on eBay, and mostly they've been successful. The unsuccessful ones I write off and take to charity shops. I now only buy brands I know.

Good for you for getting the whole family involved.

I try to buy used also. I get clothes I love for a fraction of the price. Sometimes they even have the store tags still attached (the stores donate unsold items) and pay about 25% of the original price. I don't mind if they are used though. My daughter bought denim capris at Pennington's for $75. I bought the SAME pair for $5.99 at Value Village, but it was half price day, so I paid $3!!! Gotta love a bargain. Kudos to you and your family for a whole year!
