Sweet and salty

Today I ate a little less than yesterday, and just barely in the higher limit of my target range - so a bit of progress. It seems cruel, but I think increasing my fruit intake is stimulating my appetite. My dietician warned me that this might happen, so I'm not surprised. In a way, it's reassuring that my body is responding in pretty much textbook fashion.

I've recently ramped up to 2-3 servings of fruit a day, in addition to my 5+ servings of vegetables. I think I'm going to cut down on the fruit a bit to see if that will help reduce my nighttime snack cravings. Sugar is sugar, even if it comes in a healthy fruit package, and I think my appetite is triggered by the increased sugar.

What I'm craving are salty crunchy snacks. My other theory is that I'm drinking so much water (10-14 cups/day) that I'm low on salt. I am not going to decrease my fluids so instead I am going to add salt and soy sauce back to my meals; now that my blood pressure is on the low end of normal I can do that safely. Will be interesting to see if that will help with the nighttime snack cravings.

    It's great that your blood pressure is now on the low end of normal! Your weight loss program really did accomplish its goal! And I know you'll soon figure out how to maintain.

    That's a lot of water, Bemused! Beyond the call of duty! Honestly, I used to hate drinking water but after recently making a conscious effort to follow the Spark rule about drinking eight cups a day, I've started to like it and I've noticed that the age-old "dieting" trick is true--water really does help me feel full.

    I hope tomorrow goes as well as today for you!
