Ok, it has been a long time but, I am starting a new journey! I completed a marathon on May 17th - the Colfax Marathon in Denver, CO. I chose to do the marathon because it was the 10th Anniversary for Colfax and it had been 10 years since I did a marathon. Let's face it I am not getting younger, so, just do it!
I finished the marathon in 6 hours and 12 minutes - which was an hour and forty minutes better than my Kona Marathon in June 2005 - and I am very proud of both of those accomplishments.
It's funny, a co-worker asked me if I would ever do another marathon and I told her, "I never say never" and the following week I was in Wyoming cheering for my cousins who are true marathon maniacs and we talked about the Avenue of the Giants Marathon in the Redwoods next May. Guess who will be doing that? Yep, me! And I am excited.
Yesterday I met with three friends - our coach, Janet Miller (some of you may know her from SparkPeople) and two other friends. We are planning a trip to the Redwoods for the race and we have training schedules. Yahoo!
Today I met up with three other friends to do a bike ride - cross training day - OMG! The best part - friends to share in all the crazy things I do and to encourage me!
I was testing a road bike that belonged to one of my friends to see how different it felt as compared to my mountain bike! Well, there is a big difference. We adjusted the seat up a bit - probably needed a bit more but, we all peddled off to check out the new bike path along the Boulder Turnpike - I am so grateful that they wait up when I fall behind - learning new shifting is "fun"! By the end, I think I pretty much figured it out! Well, after 26-27 miles you would think! LOL! I will say this, fit on a bike is important! And, moutain bike or road bike - I am just not fast - YET!
It was a great ride with a stop for tea before we made the final trip back. I wasn't as prepared because I knew I wasn't taking my own bike. That doesn't mean I shouldn't have had all the other things - eesshh! I did have my helmet and gloves. Sometimes I am my mother's daughter! BUt, they save me.
That would be the bad - and it wasn't terrible.
The Not So Pretty??? I had inner thigh cramps on both legs within an hour of getting home! Ugh, it has been awhile since that has happened! Thank heaven for my Leg Cramp Tabs and some NUUN water!
So, my bicycle muscles need work. But it made for a good cross training and this time around I am following a better training schedule. The operative word - Following! No, hit or miss this time!
The next marathon will be AWESOME!
