Hard time lifting my dog--ugh!

Friday, July 03, 2015

Whew, hello 3 day weekend! It got off to a bit of a rough start around here--my dog, Jimmy, broke a toenail, which can apparently be quite a big deal for dogs. He spent a few hours at the vet, and when I picked him up he was *very* heavily sedated. Moving him around (he couldn't walk so well) was quite challenging, and I was reminded of my lack of functional fitness. Granted, he's 80 lbs, but still. He's fine, but it was a long night, as he was in and out of sleep, and need help going outside to pee, and I was also watching him to see how he was doing keeping his food down. I'm exhausted this morning, and wonder again how people with human kids do it!

I have a pretty mellow weekend coming up--mostly just cleaning and errands for my trip next week. I'm going to a friend's house tomorrow, for what she calls "Our Annual Introverts Barbecue"--it's usually just the two of us and her husband, and it's always a nice evening. Healthy food, a beer or two, chatting in the yard, looking to see any fireworks that might be visible from her neighborhood. I'm lucky, in that none of my pets are freaked out by fireworks! I have a several friends whose animals make themselves very scarce once the pyrotechnics start...talk about a long night!

Anyway, Happy Fourth--have fun, be safe, make good choices!

My Golden has "thunder fear." Anything that pops or hears thunder he goes into an absolute panic. It is so sad to see him so scared. So what I do is turn on the tv real loud in hopes that he can't hear the noise. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

I'm sorry to hear about your dog! It sounds like he has a very good vet though. I was at the vet once when this dog had to come in as a walk-in with that problem, and they didn't make it a priority, even though he kept crying and howling and bleeding all over the floor. It was a pretty miserable experience, especially for my cat, who was biting his tail after he came home, he was so upset!

Have a good 4th of July!!!
