Day 227 - Reminders
Tuesday, July 14, 2015
One of my friends was asking me about calendars and reminders, and it prompted some thoughts. When I first started thinking about getting back into shape after my accident, I had a reminder on my Outlook calendar on the computer that went off every day at 9am. All it said was "Push Play."
For anyone who has ever gotten involved with Beachbody and their exercise videos, this is a slogan that they use to help anyone get motivated to exercise. Just push the play button on the DVD player and follow along. I liked the simplicity of the expression, and the double entendre that reminds us that exercising can be like playing - fun and exciting - rather than like working.
If it feels like work, why would we want to do it? So here's a thought - let's stop calling it "working out" when we're exercising. Why would anyone want to do THAT? Find a new name for your fitness activity and see if that doesn't help your motivation.
I don't need that reminder on my calendar anymore to Push Play. I've been doing it long enough now that it's habit, like brushing my teeth and taking a shower. I love my morning workouts (oops, sorry - fitness jaunts), and I love what they have done for my body as well as my confidence. It doesn't feel like work; more like a party where sweating is allowed.
Whatever you do to inspire you to keep up with your physical activity, keep doing it. Use your tools to establish a routine and turn it into a habit.
Keep pushing play.
