It could have been worse...

Friday, July 31, 2015

I really have not made any progress this summer - I just can't seem to get motivated. But after two months of looking at a closet severely lacking in summer clothes that fit, I decided I really needed to get back on the wagon.

I've been diligently measuring and tracking my food this week. Funny thing, when I do that, I actually tend to come up short on calories, so I’m searching the kitchen at 8 p.m. for something healthy. I actually cooked several items to have on hand for take-to-work lunches and quick meals – whole wheat pasta salad with vegetables, brown rice, etc. Packed lunch and a healthy snack for work. Drank lots of water. So far, so good.

Until last night. Actually, I think it started with lunch – I woke up late so I forgot to take lunch. Note to self – don’t forget lunch! I managed to find a few healthy snacks in my office to tide me over, but it obviously was not the same. Dinner went completely off the rails – ate way too much too fast. The miracle is, after I logged everything this morning, I was only 100 calories or so over my target. I guess I wasn’t as far off the track as I thought.

So today, I’m telling myself what I often comment to others – we don’t need to be perfect. We just need to do better than we did before.

I'm telling myself this very same thing after scarfing TWO PLATES FULL of squares at the church potluck last evening. This was a very big slip but also a reminder of how I used to eat sweets on a regular basis. emoticon
