Day 257 - On Campus
Friday, August 14, 2015
We had a faculty & staff meeting on our campus today that included a presentation from our campus chief of police who talked about shootings on campus and what we can do to plan and prepare for them. (A frightening topic - important, but terrifying that it is needed.) We also went over some technology for the new faculty hires (mostly part-time).
The rest of the meeting talked about some logistical issues with the fall semester. We had dinner in the campus restaurant (food cooked by our amazing culinary and baking instructors, with a couple of their former students).
I am starting to connect with a number of the faculty and staff already, and my relationship with the Dean gets stronger every day. We see things from the same perspective and point of reference, which will make working together fun and engaging. It is nice not to feel that there is a generational difference between us (even though there is).
I also talked with one of the Psychology instructors, who had been approached last semester to facilitate a student group for LGBT students. I have already offered my support and assistance, and I was grateful to hear that I don't have to be a faculty member to help. Any staff member can advise a student club or group. It will be a great way to get more involved with students on campus and show that anyone can be successful and have a great career.
I drove home euphoric and excited about Monday! My desk at work is already covered with papers, receipts, printouts of email messages, and other documents that I will have to deal with next week. Right now, that's the only thing that worries me. And that's a good thing!
Have a great weekend, Spark Friends! It's starting a bit early for me, but I plan on enjoying every minute of it!
Spark on!
