The I-Ls are coming

Saturday, September 05, 2015

My parents-in-law are flying from overseas in three weeks so we are starting our flurry of preparations. We love having them visit, but they are getting older and the travel is very unpleasant for them, so we treat every visit here as possibly the last one.

So the hub has painted the spare bedroom. He's thinking of re-caulking the spare bathroom. We will clean and dust and tidy. I'm already thinking of meals to make and restaurants to take them that they might like. And I've already reserved a couple of nights on the college kid's schedule so that he will spend time with his grandparents.

Having something happy like this to look forward to is helping a bit in getting through each stressful day at work. My in-laws are a pleasure to cook for - they are so appreciative. We've been family for over 20 years, so I have a good idea of what they might like, and I do my best to make things that I think they will enjoy. My MIL is on a perpetual diet, and her idea of a diet dinner is a big plate of fries (it's a diet if she skips the fried chicken!). So I'm looking forward to making healthier meals that I think she will like.

I admire your attitude! You love your in-laws and are not overly stressing out about their visit. Instead, you're thinking of ways to please them, physically and mentally preparing ahead of time. What a wonderful daughter-in-law you are, and I can only imagine how fortunate they (and your husband) feel that their son ended up spending his life with you!

I love having something planned, something to look forward to. It really does help with the day-to-day stuff. You're a nice DIL.
