What do you think?

Added sugars bring calories to foods without any nutritional value.
Right now, it’s hard to know how much added sugar is in the foods you buy, but the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is trying to change that. A new labeling rule would add the percent daily value for added sugars to the Nutrition Facts label of packaged foods. The rule isn’t a sure thing yet, but it’s open for public comment and could change food labels in the future.

Thank you for sharing this information! I think we all need to be more aware of sugar in our diet. This new label could really help.

Sugar is making us fat and diabetic with all the glucose spikes it causes. It shouldn't be hidden--make them label it!

This information would be extremely helpful, especially to parents. I would think parents might be a little more conscious of buying those pre-sweetened breakfast cereals if they knew just how much sugar they were feeding their children.

I would love to see this pass. Definitely lots of hidden sugars (and other things) in our food.

Living close to FDA in MD suburbs of DC, I've gone to a comments meeting on the new label requirements, which includes added sugars. Presenters were varied, including many from the food industries. But also a number of groups and individuals. Most presenters agreed that too much added sugar is present in our foods. Some food industries presenters continue to indicate that they continue to be stymied by FDA's label requirements, and the initial implementation date has already been extended.

The more information on our labels the better. I want to know what's in my food. Congress passing the "Dark Act" forbidding states to pass laws requiring labeling of GMOs is distressing to me.
I expect the sugar industry to fight this proposal too.

We as a nation need to just cut back on sugar in general. Our taste buds have been destroyed. I made pumpkin muffins with 5 grams of sugar each. Most of that coming from the coconut. Before I desensatized my taste buds to sugar, they would have been
