It's been a "painful" couple of months

Friday, September 25, 2015

Yikes! Don't know if it is the new shoes (Saucony changed the style of the Hurricane) or if it was running "non-stop" during the Her Madison (I train with Jeff Galloway intervals), it might have even been my first fall back in May (I landed on my hip and shoulder), but whatever it was, my hip has been in some discomfort. It was "teasing" jpain on the top outside of the illial crest, that started about April (the fall?) and then after Her Madison the end of June it came on full force. Running could not be done without pain. Then during a long training run, I got a sharp pain on the front side of my hip. Finished out my run but after that each run would hurt, so I stopped running! :(

I rested, did some stretches, reached out to a friend in the know, rested more. The pain would get better , so I would try a run, NOPE. Okay, back to all of the above. Then my hip popped. Ouch. But the pain that was in the front was gone, I only had the teasing discomfort on the top outside of the illial crest (still wonder what this is caused from) That was July. August was coming, I had a Badlands 10K Trail Run that I wasn't going to miss the first part of August. My husband and I ran it, and it was good, until the next day, not bad pain but the ache on that same top outside of illial crest. So I rested, stretched some more. Tried a little run here and there. I wouldn't get the pain running but afterwards it would be there.

The end of August we ran a 5K in Seattle. Not bad. Little ache. Then the Kroll's Diner 10K 3rd Sat of September. Again, wasn't going to miss it but the couple of weeks before, had some good 3 milers, a long run, I felt good. I stuck to intervals during the KD 10K. It was an Awesome run!! IT felt good! My husband even got 1st place in his age group!

I feel good. Training is now back on schedule of 3 times a week. I still think it may be the shoes but I don't know what to do because I like the cushion of the Hurricane, they have been the best pair of shoes from the suggestions at my shoe fitting. I also have the Brooks Adrenaline but they don't cushion the ball of my foot as well. The old Hurricane was narrower and the new Hurricane have a wider toe area. Not sure what shoe to go to now. Need another fitting but didn't make it to the running store when we were in Seattle this time. Should have made it a priority but didn't.

My husband swears by the Brooks Ghost but he has an arch, my feet are flat.

But foremost on my mind is the Disney Wine and Dine Half in November. The Jeff Galloway Half in December and then on to next years races!

I gained a little bit of weight over the summer starting with our Disney vacation in May (a cruise, can you say "all you can eat"!) And then not being able to run steady. But, honestly, I can deal with the 10lbs. Without Yoli, it easily could have been 20+.

I'm so excited too, I now meet with my neighbor 3 times a week to go to the rec center and her and I have a group of gals that meet once a week there too. My body is going to be AWESOME this time next year. Can't wait!!

So glad I'm "back at it"!! I so missed my running!!

Hope you find a shoe you like! I love the Saucony brand too. My kids got me some Nike's for my birthday & I started having problems. So, I'm trying some New Balance shoes now, but I'm more than likely going back to Saucony. emoticon
