The in-laws arrived safely yesterday, bringing with them three suitcases: 2 completely full of food from the hub's home country, and 1 with clothes. Apparently Christmas treats have already filled the stores at home, so they brought with them packages of holiday cookies and candies, along with the hub's favorite soda, soup mixes, spices, etc. The hub and I *may* have binged and eaten nearly a package of spice cookies - so unbelievably yum. I am going to try to stay away from the rest of them, it will be a like a game of chicken. Which of the two of us will cave in first and finish the cookies? I'm hoping the hub since he has so many happy childhood recollections of celebrating the holidays with those cookies, but since those spicy nuggets are so very yum, he may outlast me yet....
I wasn't sure if my in-laws would want dinner, what with the 6 hour time difference and nearly 20 hours of traveling. So dinner was a last-minute pickup. I made a huge salad, we had leftover rice and noodles, and the hub picked up a big box of spicy fried chicken. My in-laws, especially my MIL, *love* fried foods, and southern-style fried chicken is nothing like what they have at home so they really enjoyed dinner. My plate was 80% salad and 20% chicken so I managed to stay on track.
This morning my father-in-law, who has about 20 words of English in his vocabulary, told me after our good morning ritual: "You are more smaller!" So I agreed with him that I am "a little more smaller." Of course, his bringing packages and packages of yummy food isn't going to help me stay that way!
