Once more unto the breach

My poor jet-lagged in-laws are sleeping in. We had a great day together yesterday. We woke up early and caught our college kid playing at a tournament - just the first game since it took nearly 2 hours, and just standing on the field we were too tired to want to stay for the next game. It was a 2-day tourney and the kid's team ended up winning the whole thing. It was very fun to watch him streaking around the pitch.
Back home where I made lunch. My hub hates eggs but my in-laws love them. So my MIL asked for an omelette, which I made with four fresh veggies and cheese. My FIL asked for a spicy noodle soup with poached eggs. I'm not a sophisticated cook so can only prepare simple things, but I love it when I can make something that people really enjoy. My in-laws are a treat to cook for because they are not shy about expressing their enjoyment of food!
The son met us for dinner after his tourney. We went to the kids' favorite restaurant and ordered 4 appetizers and 7 large plates to share. It was a *lot* of food, most of which the in-laws don't have at home, so they were again very appreciative. I stuck to the veggies and steamed fish, and managed not to eat any of the fried appetizers.
So I did a good job sticking to plan during the meals. But there was that container of spice cookies still calling to us ... and which the hub and I finished off. Poor cookies, had no chance whatsoever. That bag didn't last even 24 hours.
We gave the other 2 bags of cookies to the college son to share with his dorm buddies. He had 6 2-hour matches over the weekend - I think he and his buddies could use the carbs! Much better than I, anyway!
So that is one potent sweet temptation down, and a few more to go. There's a marzipan filled puff pastry-like concoction which is also calling to us. And these crazy frog and mouse-shaped chocolates filled with a deadly sweet paste. So addictive. And two types of spice cake.... This is going to be a tough week!
