Zombie travels

Monday, October 19, 2015

I had a work deadline on Saturday - so of course I didn't get it all done until early Sunday morning. I finished uploading my reports after 5:30 am, then slept for 1.5 hours, tried to wake myself up with a shower, packed and had breakfast, and then drove through snow and hail to get to the airport. Yes, that's right, snow and hail. How did fall fly by so fast?

I was hoping to sleep on the plane, but the woman next to me had her air on full blast and my near shivering kept me awake. So now I'm in Dallas until Monday night, when I fly back. It's 80F (27C) here, and ridiculously sunny. I had both winter and summer in one day. Crazy!

I had lunch in the Dallas airport - a grilled chicken salad with no dressing. Pretty yum since I was starving. I had a work dinner tonight. Everyone else had yummy appetizers - I nearly stole one of the "duck wing lollipops" from someone's plate. But I decided to go for healthy *and* decadent. I ordered a salad topped with lump crab meat, and added a small grilled lobster tail. How's that for lean protein and veggies? Dinner was provided by work so I splurged. Yum.

And then the dinner organizer ordered mini desserts for all of us. I wanted to refuse but the organizer is such a sweet woman, and wanted so much to treat us - we are all volunteering our services and she wanted to thank us - so I chose the chocolate cake peanut butter mousse concoction. OMG. So yum. It came in a tiny shot glass but was so delish. I went online afterward and found out that tiny dessert was 320 calories. Thank goodness it was a mini portion! And I am living proof that peer pressure works even for someone in her sixth decade!

So I managed to stay on target today despite the traveling. Tomorrow there is the hotel breakfast buffet and then whatever lunch is provided for us. I'm going to need to sleep and eat a healthy breakfast in order to shake off my zombie head and make it through tomorrow's ~7 hour meeting. I am .so. tired. All nighters were a lot easier when I was younger! I've been popping ibuprofens to deal with my zombie headache. This is a silly way to start off a week. I need to start acting my age!

I had to close one eye through that description of your dessert, so as to maintain some emotional distance. Wow, that sounds yummy! And a shot glass-sized portion was 320 calories?! That is dense! But you are so disciplined that you've probably already made up for those extra calories. Hope breakfast and lunch the next day (which might have already happened; I'm mixed up about time) were healthy and delicious.

It's very kind of you to volunteer your services! I know how busy you've been with your work, so it's just amazing that you can also give of your time to others. What a good deed, Bemused! I hope you can get some rest when the trip is over.

I honestly don't know how you do it. I'm not a nice person when I don't get enough sleep. Then again, a normal night for me is about 5 hours. Lol. Why do we do this to ourselves?! Safe travels to you. I hope you end up with a more courteous neighbor on your flight home.

Everything was a lot easier when we were young, but we just didn't appreciate it.
