Catching up

Wednesday, October 21, 2015

I was so tired today from traveling and completing last minute work chores that I napped for 3 hours after dinner. Passed right out on the sofa. I woke up at 11, listened to the kid as she recited some of her homework notes in preparation for a test tomorrow, baked some chicken for the rest of this week's work lunches, did the dishes - and now it's nearly 1 am and I am wired. One day I am going to grow up and sleep normal hours like regular people!

One of my ex-bosses is in town and I took him out for a long lingering lunch. He's about 15 years older than I am, and I like how we have evolved from boss-employee to almost older brother-younger sister. We had a 3 hour lunch and talked about things professional and personal. Really nice.

Since my ex-boss told me he likes Italian, I took him to a nice place about 2 blocks from work. I behaved myself by ordering a cioppino (spicy tomato-based shellfish stew) and a bowl of fresh fruit for dessert. He had pasta with peas and mushrooms in a creamy pesto. It looked and smelled fantastic, and looked like a thousand calories. And he loves dessert, so he had a cannoli plate - 3 small cannolis, 3 small cookies, 3 small biscotti, all for one person. I am really glad that he enjoyed his lunch since it's not often I get to treat someone I owe so much to, but I was also really glad that I had healthier options to choose for myself.

I would also like to sleep like a normal person. I work days now but somehow my body really likes to be a night owl.

Great job sticking to a plan! It's so easy to slip when someone is sitting across from you eating very tempting food!

Reading this as I stand on the platform waiting for the subway. You sound good today, and I'm so glad! That nap seems to have helped. I 'm sure you're glad to be home. And great job on that lunch! You are often surrounded by lots of scrumptious food but always seem to do the right thing!

Great work! I'm sweets lover but that plate sounds like a stomach ache! I love when healthier choices are available!
