Day 332 - The Hunger Games

Wednesday, October 28, 2015

It was significantly cooler today, and we even got some rain! (WOOHOO!!!) OK, it was barely a sprinkle, but there was DEFINITELY some water coming out of the sky that landed on the ground. I saw it with my own two eyes.

When it finally does start cooling off in the fall, we Californians are pretty spoiled, so used to the warmer temperatures, than anything below 60 isn't just chilly, it's COLD. (I can hear all of you in Minnesota yelling "WIMPS!")

For some reason, the past two days my stomach has growled non-stop! I don't now if it's the cooler weather or some other changes in my diet that I'm not quite cognizant of. But I am feeling hungry pretty much all day long. I had a cheese stick and two persimmons throughout the day as my snacks, but had a terrible time with cravings.

Not to worry - I persevered and pushed through it. I drank more water. I walked around the building. I spent a lot of time in meetings. I survived the day and managed to eat healthy the rest of the day and evening, and I stayed under my calories for the day. It's hard work!

I hope my cravings subside tomorrow. I don't want to be a wimp! But I can tell you this: I will KEEP SPARKING! I am going to do some research to see if cooler weather does increase hunger though!

Have a great evening, everyone! Keep Sparking too!

Welcome to my world of seasonal challenges. We are always hungrier as the weather cools and then winter sets in, cabin fever and heavy menus. Logical for bears ! A struggle for me.

Yay for CA or any other drought-stricken area receiving rain!

Time to roast some veggies, Steve!
As the weather cools our bodies tend to crave heavier, move filling foods. Think hardy soups, stews, chili and roasts and starchy vegetables.
Conversely hot weather is a time of salads and fresh juicy fruit.
I have salad all year long, but for autumn and winter I switch to heartier darker greens.
Kale, broccoli rabe, collard and mustard greens and if you find some of these green veggies a little tough, wilt them with your favorite vinegar and oil based salad dressing.
Heat the dressing and pour over the greens.
Add some color with shredded carrots, shredded red cabbage, red, yellow or orange bell peppers. You can use the salad as a first course or side dish or even a complete dinner by adding hard boiled egg, chicken or your favorite protein. Serve with wholegrain bread.

    Now I'm emoticon

I like the cooler weather, but like you, I do not like it cold. Our winters are generally fairly mild here in West TN but last year was a whooper for cold weather.

I understand the cravings--have fought them constantly but have stayed in my calorie limit since Monday--yeah! Progress

I think it goes with the weather. We have been cool and rainy and I have not been too overly busy at work and keep thinking (only thinking) of food. But I channel it into new food ideas and research lower calorie options.

It must have been the full moon Steve. I was going through the same problem with cravings. I had 2 wheat crackers and a piece of slim cheese to help me.

    Hopefully it will go away.

    Spark on buddy.

I freeze at anything below 65, and snow is a dirty, 4-lettered word. I spent 3 winters in Chicago and survived, but there's a reason that I headed back to Florida!

No way, Steve. I"m a Californian...I know wimps. You all have been through so much, with the drought, all your fires, and the potential of really tough rain this December and January...no wimps there.

If you just asked any Minnesotan what they would prefer, an earthquake or a tornado, ALL of them would say tornado. That blows my mind, as I have been in two fairly severe earthquakes, and would pick an earthquake anytime.

It is actually pouring here. We are getting quite a rainfall, and my lawn is going to be covered with soaking wet leaves. Oh well.

Thanks for your support with the kids situation...my sister is an ___.

As far as cravings go, I was having some of my own. Weird, because that really doesn't happen to me. I bought some low sugar craisins. They are GOOD. Try something like that, that can be eaten one by one and slowly. It worked for me!!

I'm sitting up watching the World Series...extra innings...kinda late here!

    Spark on my friend.
