Day 351 - November Gratitude, part 15

Sunday, November 15, 2015

Today I am grateful for courage. It took courage to believe in myself enough to devote energy to this program and to achieve my health and fitness goals.

I am not a courageous person by nature. I generally take the safe route in life. I got the nickname "Sensible Steve" years ago because I was so cautious and careful in my approach to everything. It's easy to just play it safe and stay in your comfort zone.

This program has shown me that sometimes we have to be courageous. Sometimes we have to push ourselves out of our regular level of comfort and try something new, something that might be a bit scary, because the benefits outweigh the anxiety. Once we realize that taking chances offers great rewards, then we're less fearful the next time an opportunity for greatness comes along.

Remember the cowardly lion in The Wizard of Oz? He was afraid of his own shadow, but when his friends were threatened, his courage revealed itself. Once he saw that he had courage, there was no stopping him.

Find your COURAGE. I'm so grateful that I found mine.

I've always been courageous...or some might call fool hardy. Challenges usually motivate me more so than sideline me. Or...maybe it's because that is mostly what I know and therefore am comfortable living that reality. My DH is much more 'go with the flow' so we balance each other. He would give anyone the shirt off his back and I protect his back. After 38 years of marriage we honor each other..I'm the scrapper, he's the softer personality. It's funny how we find the other half of the part that makes us whole in this world isn't it?

I also believe that cautious people DO have a lot of courage..it takes restraint to hold your horse back from chasing every windmill that comes your way.

Good blog to reflect on..thanks my friend! emoticon

Oh, courage...it sure is a necessary tool in life! Losing weight, dealing with problems, taking chances, dealing with change and even getting up each day can involve courage! I don't think we give ourselves enough credit for what we often do and the courage it takes to get there!
Thank you for the reminder to not be afraid to dig into our courage and give the thing we are afraid of a try!
    Hugs!

Sensible also means wise. So my friend, you have grown into a wise man with a generous heart. I'm so glad our paths crossed. emoticon

PS: I didn't get to respond to Day 350 until tonight...let me know what you think emoticon

I really like the Serenity Prayer. I reflect on that every so often. I liked your reflection on courage. I will have to work on this area (again).

Thanks for your words of wisdom on my reflection from earlier today! Love to your hubby! Mark said "Hi!" back at you. He was glad to hear that you were freed from your wheelchair. He's got a ways to go! He calls himself the Gabby Gifford of the Lehigh Valley!
