So thankful--my first blog

Thursday, November 26, 2015

Here goes my first blog ever! It is pretty appropriate that it is on Thanksgiving. I am extremely blessed every day of the year. I lost my Dad to cancer last year and my Mom has been fighting cancer for over 10 years. I know what a blessing is every day we get to wake up. Some folks have trouble seeing all the wonderful things in their life and only focus on what is going wrong. I feel bad for them. They are missing out on a lot of joy.

I am blessed to have a body that allows me to care for my family and those in need. I love that my body allows me to cook for my family and sometimes a few hundred needy folks each month. I am able to see the joy it brings and can hear children laughing and talking with their folks and friends during each meal. I can see the food giving them energy to fight their fight. I can smell the luscious smells coming out of the ovens that travel through the kitchen. I love trying out a lot of different recipes, some are really good and some not so much. But either way, each bite is made with love.

I wish everyone a beautiful day today. Hopefully we can all learn that we should be more grateful and thankful for the little things every day we a blessed to wake up.

emoticon Yes! What a blessed message! I see your mom's victory for 10 years as valiant for another word. My mom passed in 2006 less than 3 months after she was diagnosed with lung cancer Oct 13 and passed on Dec 3 a week after she turned 67. She was on hospice care but I didn't know exactly what that was. I'm so glad you still have your mom in your life and the great things you do to bring others joy. Thank you for sharing with us and reminding us to be grateful in every way.
    God Bless You!

emoticon emoticon My son, Nathan had cancer 6 years ago and he is 31 now and doing well. It was a long six months and then we didn't know if it would come back. He still will be followed for 4 more years. He works out all the time now and he eats right.
There is a Cancer Team here for support.

Welcome to SparkPeople. We are all here for the same reason, no matter what our personal story is. We are here to help each other to get to that healthy point we want to be in our lives. It is not going to be easy, but it is attainable. Make small goals and they will lead to big successes. You have to make you #1 and tell yourself that you are worth it. If you don't take care of yourself you can't take care of anyone else. I volunteer for St. Vincent de Paul Society, so I know what you mean by the joy obtained from it. THanks for all you do! You can do it! We are here to help! Welcome and get active on this site. emoticon

What a touching blog. Yes, it is so easy to realize how beautiful gratitude can make our life. I admire your courage in such circumstances and then your Mom fighting cancer. So many people lose their faith but YOU have not and I appreciate that you've shared this.
