Desperate measures

Saturday, November 28, 2015

I did really well on Thanksgiving itself until the evening, when for no good reason at all, I started snacking on the honey-roasted mixed nuts that I had put out for others. I wasn't hungry, I didn't *need* them, but they were so very tempting.

And of course that bled into Friday, when I had more nuts for an afternoon snack. And more nuts for an after dinner snack. Those nuts are diabolical and dangerous in their combination of salty, sweet, and fat, and since I bought them at Costco, they came in a huge container. I was hoping to send the rest of the nuts back to the dorm with the son on Sunday but at the rate I was going, there was no way there would be any left, so I decided to save myself by dumping the rest of the nuts into the garbage before I could finish them off. I hate to waste food, but no one else was eating them and I have very little self control around crunchy things!

That is wonderful that you tossed them away. Trader joe's has almonds in small packs that you eat individually so you can control your intake if you like nuts. I buy the raw almonds, not as great as the salty ones but better for you. Candied nuts are a definite trigger, ya just can't eat one!

I have had to throw food in the trash also to keep myself from eating it. It gets easier! Think of it this way, you are not "wasting food", you are "trashing your fat".

It took a lot of control to stop yourself on the way down that slippery slope! Wow! I'm so impressed you could throw away the nuts. Being home all day, and probably being a little tired from all your recent holiday preparations and hard work--this could all make those nuts harder to resist. So good for you, and I'm sure you'll be fine tomorrow!
