Day 365 - November Gratitude, part 29

Monday, November 30, 2015

Day 365.... That's 365 days of consecutive Sparking - logging in, tracking my food, and tracking my exercise. This website makes me want to focus on healthy living in a way that no other program has done for me. I am so lucky to have found this website, and decided that I needed to give 100% or more of myself to the program, because I truly believed that it would give me the results I wanted.

A whole year.... November 17th was the day I found Spark, but because of a newbie glitch, I missed one day of tracking and exercise, so November 29th was the day I started on this track that led me to today. I've lost 45 pounds, learned to love exercise, gained a body that I didn't think possible at 58 years of age. So, while the 17th was my "Sparkversary," today is my "Streakversary."

My parents had a great visit, and I fixed them a nice "B&B" breakfast (but still managed to eat healthy myself). We took my dad to the winery that has all the vintage wooden boats (called "Boatique") and met our friends Ann-Marie and Randy (and their family) there. A-M and Randy stayed with us when they were evacuated during the Valley Fire in September. It was nice that my dad could meet them.

We came back and had a healthy lunch, then the folks headed back to Sacramento. Steven and I hung the big wreath on the iron gate to the carport (much easier than climbing the ladder to hang it at the peak of the roofline) and then took a hike around the "loop" - about 1.5 miles up the hillside where the views are even more spectacular of the lake and the mountains. A great end to the day.

It's time to go back to work tomorrow, but just 4 weeks until the winter break. I have a lot to focus on, and it's time to make some things happen! I'm ready to go!

I hope you all have a great week ahead. I'm grateful for this "Streakversary" - but the winning streak is just beginning. I intend to carry this program with me forever. Will you join me?

I'm close to the one year mark of logging in every day, and participating. I joined a long time ago but did not utilize the site. Now I can't imagine trying to do this by myself! Yahoo to you, and Yahoo to Spark.

I am with you Amigo! I hit 450 days streak today! Like you should be longer but had a lapse when I had my surgery and couldn't log in. I agree that SParkPeople changed and gave me back my life and I owe it all to SP and the wonderful people I have met through it. I have made it a mission of mine to give back to others the wonderful gift I was given. Have a great week, Steve, and look forward to the break!

Sounds like you had a great visit with your parents. It is nice that they are getting to meet some of your friends. Did they love the remodeling?

Have a wonderful week and keep the SPARK alive. The world needs all the positive energy it can get.

Just turning on my computer here on the East Coast. Have been up awhile (I am usually an early riser, I enjoy getting up early). Walked around on our patio and watched the sun play on the water and form diamonds (my GD's word, and a good one I might add) on the lake. Came in and ALWAYS look for your ..SRWYLIE.. post and open it and start my day off right.

AWESOME for 365 Steve blogs. WONDERFUL. You always have so much to say that I want and need to read. Yes SP is everything you say . I LOVE being here. I feel close to some Spark friends even if we have never met personally. Of course you , are at the top of my list.

With every good wish for you , HUGS, Pat

emoticon emoticon emoticon Big, big kudos on two milestones! You are a prime example of what can happen with a positive attitude, lots of spunk, and determination! JUST the role model I need...YIP!

I do have some sparky friends that drugs through their lives always upset, always complaining, always discouraged. One in particular has good reason to be with the tragic childhood that she lived and the horrific circumstances she went through as an adult.

I do my best to try and get her to focus on the positive in her life RIGHT now...she DOES have some positives. But she is so conditioned to the negative her life force just keeps giving her more of what she puts her focus on.

It makes me sad to go to her page because I know it will be another sad day in a sad month of a sed life. People do have empathy...lots of it...but I see fewer and fewer people attempting to bolster her. I'll hang in there as long as I can.

BUT..the whole point of this comment is that people all have challenges...they are especially happy to visit a page like yours where they know no matter what...they will leave with a big smile on their face and hopes of positive outcome.

Keep up the good work my friend...you are a positive spark in the community and for that and knowing you I am grateful! emoticon

So very proud of the hard work and determination it took for you to be at this point, as well as being appreciative of your positive attitude, caring nature, and ability to lead by example. Delighted to know that you're still journeying towards becoming the healthiest you can be by continuing to use the tools you gained through SP. Definitely planning on hanging around!

    good job on the streak!

I absolutely LOVE those vintage wooden boats. The boat in the movie "On Golden Pond" is beautiful. I always notice those boats.

I've been involved in 'healthier living' for many years. XH managed a health club. That would have been late 80s to early 90s. Lee Haney was a regular at one of the clubs. I remember many things that Lee & his workout partner said when I happened to be there during their training sessions. Heck, XH's brother was a competitive body builder & fitness model for DP when he was in college.

I have a 3 ring binder that I've compiled over the years with exercise demos from magazines. I love Shape and Men's Fitness. Women's Fitness...meh. But the Men's version is pretty good.

I've done Weight Watcher's and South Beach. I learned portion control from WW. South Beach taught me better food choices.

I paid for a personal trainer for a year or so. Best money I ever spent! I learned so much from him.

I've run with a former Olympic athlete. I met her in a Boot Camp class that I took through the YMCA. She was a sprinter on the Jamaican track team in 1968 and 1972. The age difference between us and the fact that Carmen is a sprinter is the ONLY reason I could run with her. But she got me to a 10 minute mile. I've gotten away from that now, but Carmen showed me that it WAS possible.

I say all of that to say this: I still learn new things from the Spark website. It's a great resource.

    so, YES...I'm with you, Steve!!!

    Spark on! emoticon

You are such an amazing example of a true Sparker! Your streak is quite an accomplishment, I'm very very proud of you! Spark people has really become a vital part of my life and I too plan to stick around for a very long time. It has become somewhat a home away from home. I think you feel the same way too, yes??? Hugs

Congratulations on you two anniversaries....Sparkversary & Streakversary! 365 days of truly being there...amazing...and your results are just as amazing! You truly are an inspiration and help keep us (me) motivated! This site is so reaffirming of what it takes to make true changes and have a healthy lifestyle!
