Day 367 - December

Wednesday, December 02, 2015

Happy December First! It's hard to believe that the end of the year is just 30 days away...

An update on me: I've done mostly ok with my food tracking, but with long hours at work and the lack of a kitchen, I'm not sure that I've been the most healthy I could be. I haven't weighed myself in 3 weeks, but will have a weigh-in on Thursday. It's time to be accountable again. Based on my clothes fitting and how I feel, I don't think there's a problem, but I'm still cognizant of the potential for a weight gain.

My biggest challenge right now is sleep. I'm having trouble falling asleep before 11pm, and Stella is waking me up at 4:45am. That means that my rest is not restful, and that is causing some problems at work. I have a hard time focusing when I'm at the office, and even trying to write a blog post in the evening can be a challenge when I can't even keep my eyes open!

There are political problems at work that are causing problems for my boss, and are filtering down to me. They don't affect me directly, but because they have an impact on Annette, of course I'm concerned. I'm trying to help her as much as I can, but that has been a big contributor to my sleep issues. It just means that I really have to take advantage of my holiday break from 12/24 through New Year's! I will be so grateful to be able to turn off the alarm clock for a week! I may not be able to turn off Stella, but at least I can feed her and then bring her back to bed if I feel that I need a few more winks.

I do still love my job, and that makes me incredibly happy. To have a great job and a great home to come to at the end of the work day is just awesome.

I hope you all have some awesome in your day tomorrow!

Hope the office politics get resolved quickly and that Annette comes out of it unscathed.

Is this a change in behavior for Stella or has she always gotten you up at 4:45 am? I had to reduce the amount of water available to Jack after dinner. Of course Jack is 85 pounds and still growing.

Think positive, breathe deeply and listen to some music that soothes you.

Melatonin helps sleep. I do not take it, but DD does. Before they took L-Tryptophan away, I took that when I was in college, but I also have a "God Box" that I write everything down that is bothering me, fold the paper up(A shoebox taped shut with a slot cut into the top) and give it to Him, since He is really in control anyway. It really works.

Keeping an eye on stress management and maintaining your healthy habits will serve you well. Work issues impacting sleep can be a challenge for me as well. Enjoy your break when it arrives and be kind to yourself in the meantime.

Sleep is my second best favorite activity. I hope you can "catchup" on your rest and the office politics subside too!

I hope the troubles at work will subside soon, probably that will improve your sleep too.
emoticon to maintaining your weight and focusing on living a healthy life despite all the stress!

I have ongoing problems with strange sleep-patterns and they are usually triggered by work-related issues too, Steve. Could you maybe give Stella her least-favourite food in the night, so that she eventually comes round to the idea that it is not worth making a fuss for? That would be similar to weaning a kid off a bottle by diluting the milk til it is so watery, that they just start to sleep through the night. I hope the issues your boss has to deal with will calm down soon, so that you can both really enjoy your well-earned Christmas break.

With your responses, it looks like you touched on something others suffer from, too...insomnia emoticon I am blessed and grateful that I rarely have it...but the times I have I feel for anyone that has to deal with that on a regular basis! Your little furry alarm clock, Miss Stella Stevens, is a naughty girl! Who eats at 4:45? emoticon maybe you need her food by your bed to put down at that time! Cats are famous for those kinds of shenanigans! I hope you can figure something out helpful...would a cup of herbal bedtime tea help? Does reading help you fall asleep (I often sleep with books since I pass out and they end up on my chest)!
I think on Thursday you will find good news as I think you are not gaining! If your clothes feel good and you do...good sign!
    Have a great Wednesday!

insomnia? I know NOTHING about that. emoticon

okay...MAYBE I do. Mine is back, but not as severe this time. It helps that I honestly do not need 8 hrs of sleep to function. 6 hrs is good for me. The 4 or so I'm getting the last few nights...well, that's doable for a few more days.

I do have a few vacation days to use up before year end, so my work weeks will probably only be 4 days. That helps.

I can tell you the things that help me - chamomile tea, a warm bath in Epsom salts and lavender (lavender baby bath works great), and Somnapure.
I'll even drink chamomile tea when I wake in the middle of the night.
Somnapure is something that a Spark friend told me about. It's a combination of several natural sleep aids.

praying that the office politics settle, that Stella's tummy clock resets, and that you can get some restful sleep.

I am such a lousy sleeper, I totally get your dilemma. Sorry that you are going trough a little "shaky" period! Sending you cyber hugs Steve!

I'll tell you, I have the same issue with sleep, but don't have a dog I own waking me up, I just can't sleep. Some nights I average like 4 hours and it just is not enough.

I started trying "Kava" in liquid form the other night. I read a lot about it being really calming, and Tanner works at that Co-op and asked them what was good for sleep (they have these supplement geniuses), and they recommended Kava. It tastes TERRIBLE, but I am also taking some Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar twice a day, so I am used to swallowing wretched tasting stuff. I will let you know if Kava works.

My neighbors have a dog that they let outside, and the dog barks for the entire time it is outside. This lasts for at least a half hour and is done at a minimum of five times a day. I have never wanted to hurt an animal, but this one, I want to douse with water. I cannot believe how rude it is, and the worst part is that it starts at about 6 am, and the last session is like 11 pm. I am writing an anonymous letter to them to ask if they realize that they are the worst neighbors, dog owners, human beings in the world. Maybe a little bit nicer, but I am not signing it. This creepy "man of the house" has a hand-gun collection.

I'll take your Stella any day, having to get up to use her facilities. I assume she isn't anywhere near as loud and rude as this dog in the house behind me!!

    Take care my friend.

    Spark on.

Lots going on and the worry about sleep probably keeps you up. Vicious cycle. The work thing is tough and it always seems to raise its ugly warty head just when you are in a job you like. Here's hoping your month is a little less daunting. Stay posit
