Day 368 - Scheduling College Classes

Thursday, December 03, 2015

I spent 3 hours today in a meeting to come up with a 2-year strategic plan for scheduling all the courses that we plan to offer over the next 6 semesters, starting with next Fall (2016 - almost a year away). It's quite an adjustment to talk about 2 years away (2018 anyone?) as if it is going to happen tomorrow!

I spent about an hour on marketing - working on advertisements for our newspaper and the new 15-second video spot that will be showing in our local movie house.

Another hour paying bills, an hour on emails, and hour preparing the bank deposit for tomorrow. Then there was the issue with the student acting out in class (a verbal warning, a contract with the instructor), a plan for training my new DSPS (Disabled Students Programs & Services) specialist, ordering the cake for the December birthdays for our "first friday" potluck lunch, processing the paperwork for my new temporary financial aid technician, and I'm sure there were a number of other things I did that packed up my day into 10 1/2 hours before I finally said enough and went home. I then spent some time catching up with Steve (our final inspection was today, and we passed except for some paperwork to confirm that the insulation was installed correctly). I then cooked dinner, watched a new show on TV called "Superstore" (funny mostly because I worked retail for 2 years) and then signed on to Spark to check in with all of you.

I'm keeping my head above water, but just barely. I had more comments on my status update today than I ever had before. I so appreciate everyone's support and encouragement. I've got this, and the stress isn't causing any backlash like emotional eating or lack of exercise. I'm holding it together, and I'm still loving my job. This blog isn't about complaining, it's just an update on what's going on.

Life is great - REALLY! We're having a holiday open house on Saturday the 12th and have invited everyone we know in the area, including all of our co-workers, our friends, and more. I would love it if you all could come too! If you would like to join us, send me a private message! I am happy to give you the details.

Tomorrow's Thursday. That means the Judge's Breakfast and then I am spending the day at our other campus in Williams, California. It's supposed to rain, but I am going to have a sunny day, at least inside!

I hope your Thursday is beyond awesome! Keep Sparking, my friends!

As I read your blog, it reminded me of the time when I had to work for a living. I'm so glad to be unemployed I mean retired. Now I work for entertainment kind of like watching "superstore." Work can be enjoyable and fun.

Finally the life you were meant to have and live. Both at home and work. Certainly NOT boring and filled with dread. Good for you, Steve, so happy for you. HUGS, Pat

You must be dizzy from all that "dancin"! But isn't it amazing what you've gotten yourself into? I mean really...look where you are and what you can do? Awesome!
And if you think of the short time you have been on the job...wow! Way to go!
Oh, your emoticon Holiday Open House emoticon sounds awesome!
I really wish I could come, but not this year! I do hope you will supply us with lots of pictures! That would be great!

Rain. It's a good thing. And you are doing so much. Because you can. You are able...& scheduling is like fortune telling...you just can't be sure it's the right thing for two years ahead.
