Day 380 - The Very Long Monday
Monday, December 14, 2015
I got a text message at 5:15am from my morning maintenance worker Frank telling me he was calling in sick. it's the time of year when a lot of people come down with illness, whether viral or behavioral (there's a lot of drinking happening this time of year). Needless to say, it put a wrench in my Monday. The Interim Maintenance and Operations Director (who supervises the M&O function our campus, although I manage the workers - confusing, isn't it?) called a sub to come in. The sub doesn't have keys, so I needed to meet him on campus at 7am to give him the keys. No problem.
I gave Joseph his keys and then tried to get work done. I did a little Sparking while my second pot of tea was brewing. My brain had not fully awakened. That ended up being the rest of the day. I had a meeting with my "drama team" - the Extended Opportunities Programs & Services (EOP&S) team - at 9:30am, then a meeting with all my student services groups at 11. The rest of the day was more of the same, meetings and more meetings. The day finally ended at 6pm when I drove home and then resumed answering emails until dinnertime.
I'm not complaining - really! - it was a good day, but full and long. I'm still getting lots of love from my co-workers that remind me what a great fit we are together, and many people thanking me for the great party on Saturday night. We had a great time too, and we're so glad you all came!
How do you deal with stress at work? I did my best to focus on staying healthy, doing lunges during phone meetings rather than reaching for the Lindor truffles that were leftover from the party.
Lunges over truffles. That's going to be my mantra for the next two weeks!
Keep Sparking, everyone!
