Day 420 - Rainbow
Saturday, January 23, 2016
I've always loved rainbows, since I was a little kid. When the sun comes out during a rain shower, and the sky becomes magical with color, I am filled with awe. Who isn't captivated by that beauty?
There's the wonderful scene in the film Pollyanna where she shines light through the prisms of a chandelier to make rainbows on the walls.
Being a nerd and loving science, I'm also fascinated by the physics of light, and how white light is really just all the colors mixed together, but you can break them apart with a raindrop or a piece of cut glass. It is one of the many wonders of science and nature, come together with art, to make something beautiful.
So you shouldn't be surprised that I adore the flag that represents the LGBTQI community. Our community represents many things - different cultures, sexual identities, attitudes, and ideals - but we can come together to support each other and fight oppression. That rainbow is hugely symbolic for me, but I love what it symbolizes.
There are people who will never understand what it is like to be persecuted for who you are. They are the lucky ones. For the rest of us, we can always think of a rainbow and remember that we may be different, but we're also the same.
Keep Sparking in all your brilliant colors!
