Day 420 - Rainbow

Saturday, January 23, 2016

I've always loved rainbows, since I was a little kid. When the sun comes out during a rain shower, and the sky becomes magical with color, I am filled with awe. Who isn't captivated by that beauty?

There's the wonderful scene in the film Pollyanna where she shines light through the prisms of a chandelier to make rainbows on the walls.

Being a nerd and loving science, I'm also fascinated by the physics of light, and how white light is really just all the colors mixed together, but you can break them apart with a raindrop or a piece of cut glass. It is one of the many wonders of science and nature, come together with art, to make something beautiful.

So you shouldn't be surprised that I adore the flag that represents the LGBTQI community. Our community represents many things - different cultures, sexual identities, attitudes, and ideals - but we can come together to support each other and fight oppression. That rainbow is hugely symbolic for me, but I love what it symbolizes.

There are people who will never understand what it is like to be persecuted for who you are. They are the lucky ones. For the rest of us, we can always think of a rainbow and remember that we may be different, but we're also the same.

Keep Sparking in all your brilliant colors!

You are my rainbow. You are very unique and very special friend. Unique because now a days not to many people care for others and how others are doing. I love to be different from other people. I like to see people smile and happy,so it is good to be different Steve. It does not matter our colour , our preferences, thin, fat, chubby, short or tall. What matters is our hearts, our smiles, our generosity and caring for others. You hit this list as number one for me!!

“We could learn a lot from crayons; some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, while others bright, some have weird names, but they all have learned to live together in the same box.”
    - Robert Fulghum

have you ever seen a fresnel lens up close? I have a thing for lighthouses, so whenever I am near one, I go for a tour. One of the lighthouse tours I went on had an old fresnel lens on display so you could get an up close look. Fascinating how all the angles can make a light visible for such a great distance. And all the prisms make rainbows all around!

I remember my mum telling us as kids that the world was like a rainbow - such a mixture of colours that come together to make a wonderful palette! Happy Sunday, Steve!

    PICKIE98,

Black includes all colors when it comes to color pigments in say, paint. Also, ones skin is white when melanin concentration is low. The more melanin present in the skin, the greater the skin's ability to absorb light (take in all color) and the darker the skin tone. White contains all colors in the electromagnetic spectrum. It depends on how one is working with color. All color combining is not the same.

    I love rainbows too.

As a child, I always wondered why people called black people "colored", since black is the absence of all color, but WHITE is all of the colors in the spectrum. None of my teachers could tell me.

Brilliant! Rainbows remind me of my favorite movie - The Wizard of Oz. But, your blog just makes me appreciate them even more. :)

The rainbow was also God's Promise to Noah and his children after the flood. It was a promise not only to Noah's family, but to the generations upon generations to All of God's Children.

It doesn't get much better than that!

I, too, love rainbows and was fascinated with them as a kid! Isn't it fascinating that
white light is all the colors mixed together...you just need cut glass or a raindrop to see the colors...mind blowing, isn't it? And it seems all the more fitting it makes a great symbol of the LGBT community emoticon
    Great blog, Steve!
