Day 423 - Teach What You Love

Wednesday, January 27, 2016

So I can't let today end without a quick post about my night of teaching. It was the second class of the semester, and it went extremely well. I'm letting the students guide the class as much as I do, and it seems to be working. They are all (with one exception) very engaged, and I'm having so much fun with them all. The wonder of experiencing new viewpoints has been totally inspiring to me! Case in point - we took a 20-minute break at the halfway point (rather than a 10-minute break at the end of each 50-minute period), and I had a conversation with about 4 of the students during the entire break. I didn't even get a chance to run to the restroom! LOL

As I expected, I came home with as much energy as I had when I went to work this morning. It will take a lot of effort to decompress at the end of class so that I can go to bed, go to sleep, and feel rested in the morning (especially when Stella has decided that 4:30am is her new wake-up time). I expect to go in late to work tomorrow, but that's fine, because I'll be ready for the day, whenever it starts!

I am doing a new fitness routine - Insanity Max 30 by Beachbody - Shaun T is still the host, just as he was for my previous series Focus T25, but the level of intensity is so much greater. I'm doing great so far the past two days, because I had tremendous preparation, but I have to learn some new ways of doing things. I really love high-intensity exercise, and these routines give it to you!!! Now that I know I have to get the exercise in the morning to feed my brain and be ready for the day, I will adjust my schedule in whatever way is necessary to ensure that I am firing on all cylinders!

Thanks to everyone for your words of encouragement and support. I'm having a blast right now, and just knowing that you're all on this journey with me makes it all worthwhile. I am also grateful for the text message from Jane that her surgery was successful! I wasn't worried, but it's still nice to know that she's doing well and will be dancing with all of us soon!

Today has been an awesome day, but as I like to say, tomorrow will be awesomer!

I hope you all do your part to contribute to the awesomeness.

Have a great night, friends - see you in the morning!

The best teachers learn something new everyday. By being open to engaging your students they will be as eager to get to your class as you are my friend. Enjoy every moment of it.

As to the new fitness routine, you rock. It sure will get the blood flowing and give you an adrenaline rush.

As to Stella's new wake-up time, she's probably getting quite as much of your time as she'd like right now. She just wants to know that you will always be there.

    Go forth and be emoticon

Agree with MARINGAL...I would be the fly next to her and we would hang out and watch and listen with glee! I know you make a great teacher...what fun!
And a new exercise routine...WOW...I am sure that's a fun challenge for you!
I know that it's a challenge to unwind from your day and class...maybe a bath?
You tell that Stella Stevens she needs to settle her tiny self down and treat her Daddy with a bit more courtesy! LOL
Have a great day and looking forward to more teacher stories!

Moving ahead on two fronts is remarkable, the teaching factor ( intellect ) and the new exercise program , the physical. Your progress is admirable. 👍

So happy for you! I went back to school a couple of years ago to earn my graduate degree, and your post reminds me of how much fun I had going to school at night and the awesome instructors I had. I'm sure you are going to have a lasting impact on these students.

I've always enjoyed the different talents and backgrounds in my coworkers. I know that some (bad) managers want everyone in their dept to be just like them, but that's NOT a good thing (and not very realistic).

Work to the strengths of your group, and help them work on their weaknesses. Everybody is not meant to be frontline...or a producer...or a leader.

    vive la difference!

How lucky your students are to be in your classroom. But wait Dear Steve you teach here too, and I am so blessed and happy to have you. HUGS, Pat
