Day 426 - Have Courage & Be Kind

Saturday, January 30, 2016

Have Courage and Be Kind. You have more kindness in your little finger than most people possess in their whole body - and it has power.

I watched the new live-action Disney film Cinderella tonight. It was directed by Kenneth Branagh, one of my favorite actor-directors, and written by Chris Weitz ("About a Boy"). I was expecting a musical, like the original animated version, but this was something different. Lovely, and with a powerful message.

The central theme was the essential goodness of Ella, and how her mother had left her with the instruction to "Have Courage and Be Kind" just before dying of some undisclosed illness. Ella's kindness, and later, her courage, were the keys to her achieving her goal of marrying the prince and living happily ever after.

Now it may be a stretch, and I hope you'll forgive me for taking this leap of faith, but I think being on Spark is a little like Having Courage and Being Kind. We sometimes have to take the advice we get here with a grain of salt until we realize what we're able to achieve. It takes courage to push ourselves, and track our food, and most importantly, share with the community our struggles and commitment. Additionally, we have to learn to be kind to one another, because each of our journeys is unique, but the shared experience of taking them requires a certain level of respect and admiration, even when our paths are different.

I so admire the courage that each of you possesses, and I am in awe of the kindness that you show to me. Realizing that the "happily ever after" lies within each of us makes it easier to reach for our goals and strive for the best in our lives. We may marry the handsome prince, but will can still have a pretty awesome ever-after! All it takes is a little courage, and a little kindness.

Have Courage. Be Kind. and Keep Sparking.

Your post reminds me of my favorite movie, The Wizard of Oz, in particular the scene toward the end when Glinda tells Dorothy she's always had the power to go home, and then the other characters chime in about how they should have known that for her, but in the end, Dorothy had to figure it out for herself. That's how I feel about this journey. All the tools in SP are awesome, but it really takes all of us taping into our own inner strength and resolve to realize that we can truly do this!
I think I just had my own, "Aha moment" like Oprah would say. : D

I also saw that movie last October. I expected it to be the musical thing that you did. I got the message and it was a welcome drama-comedy-fairy tale, but with a twist. The friends that watched it with me carried on a discussion of how refreshing it was to have a story line and a message that was welcome with no profanity, no nudity, but with love, compassion and courage.

Great blog. I agree but will add that sometimes being courageous means having to piss a few people off.

You know if I could pick a word that for me is religion...it would be kindness!
I am a true believer...it's comforting and healing, nurturing and uplifting and gives hope! And it takes courage to hold on, to be kind and to find kindness! But when you do, it's so overwhelming and life reaffirming! I certainly have found kindness here on Spark, and it is my joy to give it, too!

Lovely, uplifting blog! Oneof the best things about Spark, is that we go out of ourselves and make a point of engaging with others - it does make us better people! Have a good weekend, Steve! All fine here, but Turkish Kurdistan is a maelstrom of violence - to gain a little insight, you could google ANF English. Back to my old fitness levels now and feeling much more energetic! Hugs!
