Day 428 - Thank You for the Music
Monday, February 01, 2016
Sometimes it's not the SONG that makes you emotional... it's the people and things that come to your mind when you hear it...
I'm watching the "live" (tape-delayed) remake of the musical Grease on Fox TV tonight. It brings back such memories of seeing it on stage in Indianapolis back in 1974, and then seeing the movie version with John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John in 1978. I've probably listened to the soundtrack of the film about a thousand times.
I had the honor of marching in a gay pride parade in NYC with Didi Conn back in the early 1980s. We were all marching together, and I loved hearing her stories about making the film. I had loved her in "You Light Up My Life" and it was such a thrill to be able to talk to her face to face.
My partner at the time worked in a building in the garment district of Manhattan where Stockard Channing lived. His office would get her mail, and sometimes he got the opportunity to deliver it to her. I never got to meet her, but I absolutely adored her as Rizzo in Grease, and I made sure that he told her so.
It's funny how watching a show on TV can bring back such vivid memories.
I'm so grateful for music, for the wonderful place it has in my life, and the connections it creates in my heart and my memories. I know it means a great deal to most of you too. Those shared experiences where music is present are meant to be cherished.
Have a wonderful week ahead. It's a new month! Time for new goals and renewed motivation. Use music to get you moving and to spark joy in your life throughout February!
Keep Sparking, Friends!
