Day 431 - When You Can't Do One More

Thursday, February 04, 2016

There's a great line in my exercise video that I did this morning, that I want to remember forever. The workout is called "Insanity Max 30". First off, it is truly insane, with super-fast moves that get you out of breath within the first 3 minutes. Secondly, Shaun T (the coach and designer of the videos), wants you to "max out" during the workout and record the time that you had to take a break. The idea is that as the weeks progress, you'll get farther along in the 30-minute routine, so that your max-out time might be at the 7-minute mark the first week, 9 minutes the second week, and so on.

Shaun gives you water breaks about every 10 minutes during the session, so that you've got 30 seconds to catch your breath before starting another round. During one of the water breaks, he asks one of the people doing the routine with him, "How do you feel when you max out?" She replied, "When I feel like I can't do one more, I do three!"

Isn't that just the best expression? There have certainly been times where I felt like I was done, that I couldn't do one more push-up, or squat, or lunge. Now I know that when I can't do one more, then I have to do three more.

Sometimes our minds want us to stop, even when our bodies are willing to keep going. Sometimes it's the reverse, where our bodies are done before our minds are ready to give up. In either case, we have to get in sync with our inner selves, and know that even though we think we can't go on, that there is that deeply-felt strength that gives us just a little more juice just when we think we've run out.

Where is your inner strength? Can you tap into it when you need it? Let me tell you this: you need to LET IT RIP! You can totally do this!!! Reach deep inside you and grab hold of that power inside you. It's there. I know it. You just have to believe in yourself enough to let that strength emerge!

Don't just do one more. Do three. Then do three more.

You CAN do this!

I love the idea of this...that you really do have it in you to do one more. I have had a bit of trouble with this in rehab for my knee. I REALLY don't feel like I can do one more, and I need to adjust my attitude to think, well, SURE I CAN. When pain is involved in the process, it becomes more difficult, but that should not mean impossible.

I am going to try for a few more reps in my exercise routines, in your honor so I can hopefully get the heck out of here and get home.

I am looking out the window at a winter wonderland. We had a big snowfall the other day, and it looks like it will be snowing again this weekend. Makes Minnesotans happy, because they can use their snowblowers!!

Thanks for inspiring me once again.

Thanks Steve, I needed to hear this today. Feeling a little defeated from the interview yesterday, but not dwelling on it. If it is meant to be it will be. I don't know if I could handle the insanity workouts. Seems a bit too intense for me, but might be the challenge I need. But would it be too bad to take a break in the first 3 minutes? LOL! Have a great day and thanks for the dose of motivation!

This has really made the difference in my life. I am pushing myself beyond my comfort zone. Doing three laps around the track instead of just one. I am not going to settle for second best..I am number one in my book!
