I posted this on Spark Secrets tonight, as well:
Seek out Recipe Makeovers
Well, this comes into the category of healthy eating and motivation as well! I have found that recipe makeovers, such as those from Hungry GIrl and Rocco Dispirito help keep me on track. I had a wonderful creamy dessert tonight ..raspberries and cream...that tasted sinfully delicious. When you find a real delicious low calorie dish, it makes you doubly happy...Happy you stayed on track, finding a "comfort food" that doesn't destroy your nutrition plan, and happy because it tasted SO GOOD! I started some time back watching Lisa Lillian (Hungry Girl), then I started buying her cookbooks. Then I discovered Rocco Dispirto with his healthy recipes. It makes me happy to cook again. Now I even have a subscription to "Cooking Light." I haven't experimented much with my own recipes, besides small changes here and there, because there are so many good recipes out there! I want to try them all! Many can be found here on Spark Recipes. And, I am discovering alternative ingredients that I didn't even know existed. Last month I had never heard of monkfruit. I bought some in bulk that tastes just like brown sugar. Hmmmmm....maybe I'll add some to the Low Calorie Whipped Custard I had tonight...See? Being creative is just one dish away! A while back I tried some Tofu Shiritaki...wasn't really enamored on the chewiness, but now I've read some more tips on how to prepare it. And, I found out about "Miracle Noodles" that are also called Shiritaki, but made from a different source...not soy. So, I can hardly wait to try the recipes I have for Shiritaki rice pudding, and Chicken noodle Soup. I have to admit, there are some failures. When that happens, I look for similar recipes on Spark Recipes or other internet recipe websites, and check out the ratings, and any additional ingredients or tips from other cooks. Sometimes a great dish is just a dash of this or that away!
