So Cofunsed

Thursday, March 17, 2016

Today I went for my first pulmonary function test. I was diagnosed with asthma 20 years ago and have been on various medications off and on since then. Two weeks ago I ended up on steroids to deal with the worse asthma flair I have ever had. Today I did these tests and amazingly I heard back from the doctor this afternoon. Anyway, the tests didn't show that I have asthma! The lady doing the tests said they pointed toward asthma, but that I might need to go back for another test to determine the severity.

The doctor still believes I have asthma and prescribed me a new steroid inhaler to see if that helps. Apparently I might have some type of intermittent asthma. I guess this makes sense because I'll be fine for awhile and then start having trouble again. Then it gets better and the cycle starts again.

All I know is that a year ago I was training for a 5K and now I get winded reading books to my kids at work. I deliberately went without my inhaler for a couple days to make sure the tests were good and my chest is still tight and sore and the tests were negative. I just don't get it. An asthma specialist diagnosed me in college.

I guess all I can do now is be thankful my doctor believes me over the tests and go back if I don't see an improvement.

Thanks everyone. Yes, I have my rescue inhaler and now am back on a controller for everyday. The controller inhalers are the ones that I keep getting put on and taken off. I'm just so frustrated, but now have a better understanding of why it took me so long to get diagnosed in the first place.

I can see why you're confused. Hope they get it all figured out and that you get feeling better soon.

My rescue inhaler is for flare-ups but I'm still able to work out and ride my bike I don't jog butt you may want to look further into it if you are continually getting winded

Is your inhaler a daily one for morning and night or just a rescue inhaler in case you have breathing problems... I have asthma and COPD but it's controlled with an inhaler that I use in the morning and in the evening and then I have a rescue inhaler
