Hello fellow SparkPeople members!
We know that sugar is a culprit now for our health and with weight loss, For 5 years now I have been off sugar. I have also been off foods that convert to sugar like breads, potatoes, beans, rice etc, eating low carb, 20-30 grams, berries, non starchy veggies, nuts, meat, cheese &healthy fats like coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil and avocados..
Then menopause came in full swing and my blood sugar is in diabetic zone, cholesterol over 300 and blood pressure 160/91. For one month I cut out all dairy, sugar alcohols, coffee, black tea and reduced my sodium. It's crazy that I need to eat so strict to stay off medication. It's cheaper for me to take medication, but not healthy. It is working, my blood sugar is now in pre-diabetic zone, cholesterol at 260 and blood pressure at 125/80.
The good- My face is not aging quickly due to staying off sugar
The bad- Menopause, messes with hormones, and those hot flashes, ugh!
The ugly- Aging, menopause and hereditary!! Wham!!!I lost over 90 lbs and my BP, Cholesterol and blood sugar numbers soared into danger zones. What's up with that? Definitely ugly. Funny though I was told that I have a beautiful healthy colon.
Weight loss usually remedies some diet related disorders. I am fighting these numbers full force with diet and exercise. I am 5'2" and wearing ladies size 4 in jeans. Never thought I would be unhealthy at this size.
