Day 484 - All About the Bunny
Monday, March 28, 2016
One of my employees at the college was born in France and came to the US when he was 9 years old. Although he comes across as American as any of us, once in a while he says something that shows that his orientation is still more international than ours.
In France, they don't have an Easter Bunny; it's a Chicken, and the Easter Chicken brings decorated eggs to all the good boys and girls. Well, that makes sense when you think of it. How would a bunny get eggs to give away? The bunny is stealing eggs from the chicken! It's so much better to think of the chicken being the one to give away the eggs.
I'm not big on Easter candy anymore. I don't care for milk chocolate or jelly beans, so there's no worry about being bad on Easter with sweet treats. We did have a wonderful meal with friends today with ham, scalloped potatoes, roasted Brussels sprouts, and Caesar salad. I made strawberry shortcake for dessert (adding a little balsamic vinegar to the strawberries for some depth of flavor) and everything turned out delightfully. After dinner, we took a walk around the lake to enjoy the views and appreciate being with friends.
I hope you had a wonderful day, whether you celebrate Easter, some other holiday, or the Spring Equinox. Surround yourself with people you love and love the people you're with. It makes life worthwhile!
Keep Sparking, friends!
