Day 484 - All About the Bunny

Monday, March 28, 2016

One of my employees at the college was born in France and came to the US when he was 9 years old. Although he comes across as American as any of us, once in a while he says something that shows that his orientation is still more international than ours.

In France, they don't have an Easter Bunny; it's a Chicken, and the Easter Chicken brings decorated eggs to all the good boys and girls. Well, that makes sense when you think of it. How would a bunny get eggs to give away? The bunny is stealing eggs from the chicken! It's so much better to think of the chicken being the one to give away the eggs.

I'm not big on Easter candy anymore. I don't care for milk chocolate or jelly beans, so there's no worry about being bad on Easter with sweet treats. We did have a wonderful meal with friends today with ham, scalloped potatoes, roasted Brussels sprouts, and Caesar salad. I made strawberry shortcake for dessert (adding a little balsamic vinegar to the strawberries for some depth of flavor) and everything turned out delightfully. After dinner, we took a walk around the lake to enjoy the views and appreciate being with friends.

I hope you had a wonderful day, whether you celebrate Easter, some other holiday, or the Spring Equinox. Surround yourself with people you love and love the people you're with. It makes life worthwhile!

Keep Sparking, friends!

I love that Spring chicken idea. I am not so big on any candy, so no worries. I did tell MF that I missed hiding eggs for her. Last time I did it, I filled the eggs with $1 bills, plus 1 $20..she told me I could do that again..ANYTIME. I just might!

It sounds like you had a wonderful Easter. Strawberry shortcake must have been the desert of choice this year. I lightened it up by making mine with Angel Food Cake.

The trees and bushes are just beginning to bud and a few spring flowers have bravely pushed through the recently thawed soil. Hopefully we're done with snow and ice for the season.

    Live, laugh and love everyday!

We spent Easter with my eldest daughter and family. It was delightful. I baked a chicken, made creole dirty rice, fresh green beans and roasted corn. We had brownies and ice-cream for desert. Unlike you, I find any sweets irresistible and give all the left-over deserts to the grandkids. Nevertheless, I probably had one brownie too many. Martha an end also ended the day with a nice walk around the neighborhood.

I love the Easter Chicken! I guess I always thought positively that the bunny and chicken worked hand in hand and it was just decided that the bunny would handle delivery...you know after you lay so many eggs (especially the bedazzled ones) it's just too much to deliver them to the baskets, too! No stealing involved!
Glad you had a great day, with a delicious meal and friends!
I ate very light and it ended a week of good light eating!
    Have a great week!

LOL...Our Easter menu was almost a carbon copy of yours, down to the shortcake. Would have loved that track around the lake... great movement for the day.
Let's take on this week Steve... I'm starting my resistance work now!
    Cheers, Brad

Our bunnies live under our deck, so we see them every day. I agree about the chicken though. I always wondered how a rabbit laid eggs.
I relaxed at home, so glad you had a great day!

Glad you had a good Easter Sunday, Steve! Our Easter basket was tiny this year - just six little mini cookies and six little marzipan eggs covered in dark chocolate - perfect with a pot of Kashmiri chai after a good walk along the river bank.

Perfection. Great Day, Great Dinner, Great Friends!!

I celebrated Easter at Children's Hospital with my Granddaughter. She got a 25# chocolate Easter bunny from the hospital- It is almost as big as she it. Then an Easter Bunny came up to her room and she had her picture taken with him. With all the love that has been pouring her way, she had 5 Easter baskets, but she cried because she couldn't be home with her brothers and sisters. Then a Service Dog came in and visited her- She felt better after that!

We are hoping that they let her out Wednesday and she can do the rest of her tests on an Outpatient basis. My daughter has to stay in the room with her 24/7 so they are both getting a little stir crazy!

It was still a great day, great family we are so blessed!!
