Buffeting the buffet

Wednesday, May 04, 2016

Today I had a work lunch; 6 of us went to an Indian buffet. There were lots of syrup-soaked sweets, deep-fried appetizers, fluffy bread, fragrant rice, and assorted rich saucy dishes. All of which my colleagues piled on their plates, but I managed to stay away from. Instead, I covered my plate with the simple undressed salad and then added small portions of the grilled and curried chicken. For dessert I had grapes and melon. I admit, I may have looked longingly at the rice pudding and the honey-soaked pastry on my neighbor's plate. But I held off and managed to stay on track. Today I fought the buffet and I won.

Now we are veering into the wee hours and I'm starting to feel hungry again. The kid is busy studying: she has 2 AP tests and 2 SAT subject tests in a few days. I would love to go to bed to get my mind off food, but she wants me to keep her company as long as she is up. So I guess it's time to brew some tea and practice being zen.

And if she aces those tests (which I think she will), please give yourself a pat on the back for supporting her and not snacking while doing so! Staying up late is so hard for me, as I'm too tired to do anything useful or read anything hard. You are a very devoted and admirably non-snacking mom!

That is a great victory over the buffet! Good for you! (And what you ate sounds delicious!)
