Amazing things will happen

Monday, May 09, 2016

If you work really hard, and you're kind, amazing things will happen.

I believe this. I believe we can make amazing things happen if we are kind, and work hard. Amazing things will happen to US. We can become the people we always have envisioned being.

I had a great day yesterday on Mother's Day. My darling Daughter got off work early afternoon, and we worked on the kitchen, cleaning and laughing, and then we made some AWESOME taco salads for dinner. It is so fun to just sit with her, and see what kind of adult she has become. I am so proud of her, proud of the person she is, proud of her intelligence, humor and empathy. Could not be a better way to celebrate Mother's Day!!

I also called my Mom fairly early in the morning, and read her the poem I had written for her. It was hard to read to her, with all my emotions swirling in my head, knowing that next year, Mom may not be mentally able to comprehend Mother's Day. Obviously, I didn't say anything, but it hit me really hard. I know these kinds of things are so hard on my Dad, who loves her so much.

They are driving out from California in a couple weeks to visit us. I am really looking forward to seeing them. I am glad my Dad has the love for Mom that he does, so he can tolerate the constant questions that get repeated MANY times a day with people experiencing brain issues. The lucky part of all of this, is that this did not manifest in my Mother until her 80's. Late, but she has had a wonderful life, and I know she would say that it has been full, and full of love.

I hope you all have a magnificent week, and make this Monday one to remember.

Spark on.

    Hey beautiful,

Your blog post is such a treasure. What a beautiful heart you have. Sending gentle hugs for the huge wash of emotions around your mother, reading her your poem and the path she is on. So very glad you will see her soon and so glad you had great close time with your own daughter.

What a wonderful Mother's Day! I love doing similar things with my daughter too. We laugh and act silly and just love one another. One year, she had very little money, so she made me a card instead of buying one. It is one of the things I cherish the most. I am sure in her heart, your mother was touched by the poem you wrote. I can think of no nicer, more loving gift.

Such a beautiful thing writing a poem for your mother, bet she loved that from you. How lucky you are to have a father that loves your mother so much and is bringing her to visit from Ca., have the best visit with your folks. My parents died before either had issues of memory losses. I did experience it with my mothers parents of whom I was real close with while growing up.

    Thanks for a LOVELY post.

Missing my mom, so intelligent, creative and funny, all day yesterday. She had Alzheimer's too so I know what it's like.

I quit my job and spent her last seven years with her in her own home. The whole process taught me so much. I grew to love her more for her needs and weakness than I ever did for her gifts and strength.

“Hearts will never be practical until they can be made unbreakable.” Perhaps, but I learned that the deepest loving is not about "practicality" (getting what's useful) but about being wildly appreciative of all life even when it's past it's ostensible "usefulness".

Blessings on your Mom and Dad and you and your whole family.

Glad you had a wonderful Mother's Day. I have a great daughter, too, and got to eat supper with her last eve. Grandkids decorated a cake for us, too. It is wonderful to see our kids succeeding. I am so proud of the way she takes care of her kids.

My mom is 88 years old and has had a wonderful life, too. She lives alone -- more or less. My sister lives half a block away and checks on her daily and spends lots of time with her. Mom repeats herself a lot and just a month ago said she can no longer subtract in her checkbook and asked for help. Gulp. It isn't easy. My mom also lives half a continent away from me. I am so grateful to my sister for her patience and wisdom.

So, I can relate to your joys and concerns. Take care.

emoticon emoticon So glad you had a wonderful Mother's Day. These moments we get to spend with our children and the time we get with our elderly parents is precious. I spent the weekend with my parents and I was so glad for the time that we were able to spend laughing and remembering years past. Have a great Monday.

I'm glad you had a great Mother's Day - how wonderful for you to still be able to talk to your mom. Even though we were on the road all day, I did hear from all my children and I really appreciated that!

This brought a tear to my eye. Watching parents get older and start losing those faculties is tough, but toughest for the one who spends every day with them. I hope they're able to make the trip successfully.

Have a wonderful week, knowing that you are a source of pride for your parents, and for the rest of us too.

Without LOVE we are nothing comes to my mind after reading your message to us. I, too, had a wonderful Mother's Day which this year included my 80th birthday. All but my youngest son gathered together to celebrate. I wish you well and enjoyment when your parents arrive.
