Time to love one another.

Friday, July 08, 2016

Another two shootings, not justified, and probably not prosecuted. I hope this stops.

The tragedy with the killing of Dallas police officers yesterday, was no less than an offshoot of the frustration, horror and sadness that black families feel every single day, when they are called out, pulled over, and harassed. Sometimes killed.

I know a lot of good cops. They do a very hard job. The tragedy in Dallas was horrific. It was a clear indicator of a broken system. We HAVE to do better.

The governor of Minnesota, Mark Dayton, said clearly yesterday, about the killing of Philando Castile in Falcon Heights, MN, that he didn't think that Castile would have even been pulled over if he was white. I agree.

This must stop. We all must realize that there is a problem. Once we see that there is a problem, we can work towards solutions. No cops should be racist, and shoot citizens and no citizens should shoot cops.

We need to do better. Here's hoping that these tragedies open a REAL conversation.

And, THANKS GOP for your continuing vendetta against Clinton. You are now shooting yourselves in the foot...for myriad reasons.

Off to Boulder, CO.

Spark on.

You said it so well with these words - "We need to do better". emoticon This week has just been so sad. Too many lives lost - over religion, race, wearing a uniform. Lives lost over hatred...it's so sickening.

I was so shocked, saddened and appalled to have that incident happen in Falcon Heights and all of the other places as well, but the Falcon Heights is right here where I thought we were better than that. What a tragedy for everyone involved. This has to stop. Senseless killings and lives ruined.
Prayers for all involved all over this Country.

When will we ever learn that only love conquers hate? Be an instrument of peace, do not be afraid to use your voice. Use it daily, use it to thank those who serve you, be it a gas station attendant, cashier or a police officer. Such a small gesture of humanity may be the only kind word a person hears on any given day.

We need to take a hard look at our country and at its proclivity for violence. If we truly want to do better we need to ask some hard questions and be brutally honest in our answers. We will never be perfect, but we can be oh so much better than we are today.

Do not be fooled by those who spread hate and fear for they are cowards and fools. As we mourn for lives lost let us be our better selves. Get involved work for solutions both social and political.

When are people going to realize that we're all one and the same. We bleed red blood, we all have hearts, we're all one and the same ... even if the packaging is different. Both my kids have experienced some degree of racism (they're Korean adoptees) in their years, but I've taught them that we're all the same and though they do NOT have to put up with harassment, they should not be harassers. Then you're just no better then the bullies, and that's exactly what it is . . . bullying. **SIGH** As the song goes when will we ever learn.

I agree with you and from what I've seen, Philando Castile was truly a victim in this situation. I, too, know many police officers - my daughter's very best friend is an officer at the 5th district in Minneapolis. It's unimaginable what they see so often, it seems the police departments need to be more vigilant in providing ongoing training to help the officers cope better in potentially negative situations. As for this traffic stop, I can't even wrap my head around that one.

Then I wake up this morning to 5 dead officers in Dallas. My husband lived in Dallas for several years as a child. We were just there a couple months ago. It's a beautiful city. All I can say is WHY?

    Enjoy your time in Colorado!

This is tough to witness. I just don't understand why a person's skin color should make a difference whether they get pulled over by a police officer or not, and how they are treated. Every person deserves to be treated with respect. The officers who killed Alton Sterling and Philando Castile should be put on trial for manslaughter, with a full investigation. The people who killed the officers in Dallas should be treated the same way. There is no excuse for killing another person. Violence never solves anything. I am so sad about this.

And I hope this November that the GOP loses many seats in the House and Senate, because we ARE going to have our first woman in the White House.

    Spark on, my friend.
