Recent events - Better outcome!

It has been awhile since I have shared. The last two weeks of June I was on a family vacation to Disney World. My most enjoyment was watching the two older grandchildren's reaction as they explored each park for the first time. My second most enjoyment was noticing how Disney is now offering more healthier options than I was last there. This made my goal of staying on track and healthier much easier. Not that I did not indulge a few times but made me less guilty (after all I was on vacation). Definitely had no trouble getting my steps in each day. Most days I went close to or a little over 20,000 steps. It was a great vacation - busy, a good exhaustion and lots of fun!
Then we arrived home. I remember reading some articles when I was just starting out on my journey to a healthier lifestyle about how we should clean out our pantries and refrigerators and load them up with healthier foods. Well, not by choice, that is what we had to do the night we came back. We thought a critter got caught in our walls and perished only to find out it was the food in the freezers and refrigerator. Our guess is that we lost electricity for days and all the food spoiled to the point it became a science experiment including a 20lb. turkey.
Taking this unfortunate event to a positive level. The next morning, I went to the grocery store and stocked up on fresh veggies, fruit, lean meats and fish. Not that I did not have healthy foods in stock before this but I paid more attention to what I was actually getting. I don't know if this was because I went shopping alone without my husband or because I was relaxed knowing that I needed to get everything and didn't need to have a list or if it was because the store was quiet and empty (being a Sunday, July 3rd).
It took days to get things back in order and on track. By the end of the week we were not only physically exhausted but mentally as well. Thanks goodness for weekends!
With all that has happened, my husband has been reaching for the SparkPeople cookbook looking for healthier recipes.
Still working back into a regular strength training schedule. Power walking is my "go to" cardio in times like this. I just pump up my pace.
I never give up!!! I always remember why I am doing this and where I was prior to beginning this journey. I don't want to go back to that lifestyle! I will keep on fighting!
Have a great day! Keep on sparking!!
